Abstract
An apparatus and method for ensuring that the flow of water to a toilet tank is shut off. The first preferred embodiment of the invention combines a conventional float mechanism to shut off the flow of water to a toilet tank when full, with a timer mechanism to shut off the flow of water if the float mechanism fails. There is also a manual override to shut off the flow of water if both the float mechanism and the timer mechanism fail. In the second preferred embodiment, the float mechanism is in the toilet bowl, and shuts off the flow of water when the water level rises in the bowl above a certain level after the toilet is flushed, with the timer mechanism again backing up the float mechanism. In the third preferred embodiment, there are two float mechanisms, one in the tank and the other in the toilet bowl.

7293583 - "Countdown Timer" automatic water limiting supply shut off safety valve flo-control system

An electronically controlled electro-mechanical device designed to limit a finite amount of water per flush to a tank reservoir of the common household toilet, or tank-less toilet or urinal, providing positive shutoff of water flow and anti-siphon backflow prevention. The toilet is flushed, the flush lever activates an attached tilt switch, the tilt switch actuates the countdown timer by means of electrical linkage, the countdown timer in turn activates the solenoid valve by means of electrical connection. The water enters the solenoid valve, passing through the valve and on to the float valve mounted to the toilet tank for fill up. The Countdown timer counts down from the full minutes and seconds set to 00:00 and shuts off the solenoid valve and ultimately the flow of water. The Countdown timer then resets itself to the time set in memory for the next flush operation. A float eliminator may be affixed to the toilet tank replacing the float valve, then connected to the solenoid valve. For the purpose of adjusting the volume of water per flush the Countdown timer can be programmed from 00:00 minutes and seconds to 99 minutes and 55 seconds. The average toilet will need approximately 2 minutes. It is suggested that the user flush and time his toilet prior to installation of the electro-mechanical solenoid valve unit and add five seconds to assure the proper volume of water per flush.

7392817 - Water conservation safety shut-off valve - Owned by Castlebridge Enterprises, Inc. (Westlake, CA)

The present invention is a water conservation safety shut-off valve assembly for use on locations which normally have intermittent water usage but need to indicate when there is constant water usage, such as a leak. The valve assembly has a valve body with a fluid pathway and a valve plug held in an open position allowing water to flow through the pathway. As water flows through the pathway, a sensing device detects water flowing through the pathway and begins timing duration of water flowing through the pathway. If the water flow through the pathway stops, the timer value is reset to zero. If the water flows through the pathway, and the timer circuit reaches a predetermined manually set value, the valve closes the pathway, stopping the flow of water through the valve assembly. Preferably, the valve assembly indicates whether the valve is in an open or closed position. In addition, the valve assembly may generate its own electricity or may use standard battery or household power to operate the timer and related circuitry.
