In one aspect of the invention, a system for call forwarding includes a telephone subsystem operable to communicate with a telephonic device. The system also includes a wireless subsystem operable to communicate with a mobile station. The mobile station is associated with the telephonic device. The system further includes a packet subsystem coupled to the telephone subsystem and the wireless subsystem. The packet subsystem is operable to instruct the telephone subsystem to forward a telephone call directed at the telephonic device to the packet subsystem after the mobile station registers with the wireless subsystem. The packet subsystem is also operable to communicate the telephone call to the wireless subsystem for delivery to the mobile station.
CROSS-REFERENCE TO OTHER APPLICATIONS
This application shares a common specification with U.S. application Ser. No. 09/781,927, filed on Feb. 12, 2001 for a "System and Method for Call Forwarding Synchronization in a Communication System."
A method for connecting a telephone call for an extension coupled to a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to a handset coupled to a packet switched network is provided. Log-in information for the handset coupled to the packet switched network is received. An active handset for the extension is then deactivated in response to receiving the log-in information if there is an active handset. The method activates the handset using the log-in information. When a telephone call for the extension is received, a network address associated with the handset is determined. The telephone call is connected through the packet switched network to the handset coupled to the packet switched network at the network address.
An apparatus in one example comprises a server component of a mobile switching center that causes a redirection of a portion of a new media path between a packet-switched portion of the mobile switching center and a circuit-switched portion of the mobile switching center.
An adaptor serving for both a mobile phone unit and a private IP telephone unit is disclosed. A mobile phone unit is connected to the adaptor through a low power wireless system or a wired cable. A telephone unit controller manages resource data (data such as telephone directory, telephone history, and mail). A memory editor links a telephone directory of a mobile phone unit and a telephone directory of an IP-PBX in cooperation with a telephone directory controller of the IP-PBX. A VoIP extension line section provides the mobile phone unit with a function of an extension telephone unit in cooperation with the IP-PBX. A QoS controller is a circuit that performs control for minimizing loss of audio data due to communication congestion on a communication path (intranet/Internet). A charging circuit is a circuit that charges a battery of the mobile phone unit. The charging circuit contains a protecting circuit that protects the battery from being overcharged.
