A structure of a cowl and its vicinities is provided which is capable of, even in a vehicle which has an open cowl structure, using the open cowl structure as a member which connects the right and left bodies of the vehicle, and at the same time, realizing a structure that is useful for protecting a pedestrian. At the end part of a cowl 12 in the vehicle rear direction, one end of a dash upper panel 16 is connected; its other end extends below the cowl 12 and in the vehicle front direction; from its middle part in the vehicle front-and-rear directions, a cowl cross-member lower 9 extends in the vehicle upper direction; at the upper-end part of the cowl cross-member lower 9, a protrusion portion 25 is formed; and by welding it to a cowl cross-member upper 10, a closed-section portion 27 is formed between them. Herein, the cowl cross-member upper 10 is thinner than the cowl cross-member lower 9.
A front body structure for a vehicle including: a cowl box extending in a transverse direction of the vehicle and having a curved shape with its central portion in the transverse direction of the vehicle situated at a front end thereof; and a cowl top extension tying tops of strut towers, extending in front of the cowl box at a height substantially equal to that of each of the tops of strut towers, and having a curved shape with its central portion in the transverse direction of the vehicle situated at a rear end thereof. The cowl top extension and the cowl box are connected to each other at the central portions thereof.
A cowl-top cover for a vehicle having a bonnet hood, a windshield and a well disposed therebetween, is provided with a fixation portion fixed to a body panel of the vehicle on a side of the bonnet hood; an engaging portion including a bottom, the engaging portion being configured to conceal and slidably pinch an end portion of the windshield so that a space portion is defined by the end portion and the bottom; and a main body portion linking the fixation portion with the engaging portion and covering the well, the main body being configured to be deformed by an applied impact force and allow sliding movement of the engaging portion in a direction where the bottom moves toward the end portion of the windshield.
