For this purpose, the tray guide that supports the tray so that it can be fed is removably mounted to the printing apparatus. Whether this tray guide is mounted to the printing apparatus is detected by the tray guide sensor. According to a result of detection by this tray guide sensor, the control unit for controlling the driving of the carriage controls the position of the carriage in the main scan direction.
