Apparatus and methods for rapidly diagnosing the presence or absence of the symptoms of neurological pathology caused by physical head trauma (such as occurs in contact sports or automobile collisions), disease (such as occurs in Alzheimer's disease), toxins (substance abuse or environmental toxins) or infection (such as occurs as a side effect of later-stage AIDS infection). These inventions are useful for diagnosing neurological pathology, as well as for monitoring recovery from or maintenance or progression of neurological pathology.
An assessment of a subject's inhibitory control is provided that can be administered from an early age. Such skills can be used to predict early school adjustment and readiness. The test may also be used for nonreaders and students in special education, and in children down to the age of 5. The assessment tests for the ability to override an automatic response of naming colors and shapes. Each item in the assessment is administered by asking the subject to, for example, say "square" when looking at a circle.
An electronic sensor is configured to be carried by a person and to be used by the person to detect a cleanliness state of the person's hands. A single unit includes the electronic sensor and (a) a device to provide an indication of the cleanliness state of the person's hands and/or (b) a device to identify the person. A circuit that is configured to control how long after a cleanliness state of a person's hands has been determined to be clean, the state is presumed no longer to be clean. A badge that includes indicia identifying a person who carries the badge, a sensor to be used to detect a cleanliness state of the person's hands, and a visible indicator to indicate to other people the cleanliness state of the person's hands can be used in combination.
