A backlight unit of a liquid crystal display device includes a light source and a reflective means, the reflective means having a plurality of sloping reflective surfaces for reflecting light emitted from the light source to a light-irradiation surface of a liquid crystal panel at an angle of about 30.degree. or less with respect to a line perpendicular with the light-irradiation surface of the liquid crystal panel thereby to improve light efficiency.
