The present invention relates to new synthetic methods for preparing 2-methoxyisobutylisonitrile and metal isonitrile complexes, such as tetrakis(2-methoxyisobutylisonitrile)copper(I) tetrafluroroborate, which are used in the preparation of technetium (.sup.99mTc) Sestamibi, and novel intermediate compounds useful in such methods.
