Abstract
A plurality of ink pumps are mounted directly on an ink rail. The ink pumps are gear pumps, each having a D.C. motor associated therewith. Each gear pump delivers ink to a particular section of the ink rail from which the ink is then applied to a particular circumferentially extending segment of the ink roll corresponding to a column on the page to be printed. By controlling the speed at which the motor operates, the amount of ink pumped can be varied, and thus the amount of ink delivered to the roll can be varied.

5398605 - Ink pump control system - Owned by Tokyo Kirai Seisakusho, Ltd. (Tokyo,JP)

An ink pump control system driven by a stepping motor comprising a pulse generating section for generating stepping motor driving pulses, an arithmetic section for obtaining a time difference .DELTA.t=T.sub.2 -T.sub.1 between the time T.sub.2 and time T.sub.1 required to cause the stepping motor to rotate in angular movements at a hypothetical revolution speed r.sub.2 required for feeding ink and a predetermined revolution speed r.sub.1 based on printing speed data and printing element ratio data, a predetermined pulse output section for outputting pulses that cause the stepping motor to rotate intermittently at high speed based on the pulses generated by the pulse generating section and the time difference obtained in the arithmetic section, and an excitation signal output section for outputting an exciting signal to cause the stepping motor to be actuated by a motor driver.

6513430 - Variable width web inking system

An inking system for alternately supplying ink in two overall widths to a web press. The system includes ink pumps, a series of outlet passages for the ink pumps, a set of intermediate passages connected to the ink pumps, two outlet passages for each of its intermediate passages and first and second supply passages for an inking roller. There is an ink flow control that selects either a first or a second array of supply passages, thereby supplying ink in a wider width or a narrower width. One ink flow control, preferably, consists of two flat apertured plates and the other ink flow control comprises a piston and cylinder arrangement in a block having plural passages.

5182993 - Ink supply source driving apparatus for rotary presses - Owned by Tokyo Kikai Seisakusho, Ltd. (Tokyo,JP)

An ink supply source driving apparatus for rotary presses, capable of reducing the dimensions and weight of a rotary press and carrying out by a single ink supply source driving system an ante-printing rapid ink feeding operation, and an ink pump purging operation for the purpose of carrying out the cleaning of the parts after the completion of a printing operation and the cleaning of the parts for the purpose of replacing the ink by ink of a different color, the apparatus consisting of a synchronizing signal generator adapted to generate when a rotary press driving system in a rotary press is rotated a signal synchronous with the rotation thereof, an ink pump driving motor, a control unit adapted to control the ink pump driving motor selectively so that the ink pump driving motor is driven by an output from the signal generator synchronously with and at a predetermined rotational ratio with respect to the rotation of the rotary press driving system or independently of the rotation of the rotary press driving system, and a change-over means for selectively switching the control modes of the control unit.

4798228 - Multi-liquid control valve system, particularly for flexographic ink of different colors - Owned by M.A.N.-Roland Druckmaschinen AG (Offenbach am Main,DE)

To easily control flexographic printing ink of different colors, and washing liquid, to a plurality of printing plates on a plurality of printing stations of a system, a valve housing (26) is formed with a plurality of connection ducts, each coupled to a respective ink and washing fluid supply line. A plurality of elongated plug valve elements (41) are located in bores of the housing, the valve elements having axial bores and axially and circumferentially offset radial bores, leaving a portion of the plug elements solid to form an OFF position. The radial bores can be aligned, upon rotation of the valve elements, with coupling ducts which, in turn, connect with second fluid connection ducts (27-30, 31). Selectively, flow connection between selected supply lines and selected receiving lines are established by a fluid path: second fluid connection ducts (27-30, 31), a selected radial bore (45-48, 49) in the valve element, through a coupling duct (40) in alignment with the selected radial bore, the axial bore (44) of the valve element and one of the first connection ducts (36-39).

5315930 - Keyless inking system for a printing press - Owned by Rockwell International Corporation (El Segundo, CA)

An inking system (10) for a printing press (12) having an ink injector (18) for supplying ink under pressure and having a device (50) for pumping and metering the ink flow in the injector (18), a fountain roller (14) having an outer brush surface (26) in close contact with the ink injector (18), a device (29) for rotating the fountain roller (14), a pick up roll (16) located adjacent the fountain roller (14) to receive ink from the fountain roller (14), a device (29) for rotating the pick up roller (14), and a device (42) for scraping the residual ink from a scraper roller (40) receiving ink from a rubber covered roller.
