Abstract
A plane adapted to cut hinge recesses in a door edge is disclosed. The plane housing has a base having a cutout. A rotary cutter, rotatable relative to the base, is mounted from the base and in alignment with the cutout. Means are provided for selectively adjusting the position of the cutter relative to the base. Limiting means are provided for preventing the cutter from cutting across the entire width of an underlying door edge so that the cutter will leave an uncut strip of door edge after a hinge recess is cut in the door edge by the plane. The uncut strip serves to limit lateral movement of the door hinge when it is mounted in the hinge recess cut by the plane. Means are provided for rotating the cutter, such means comprising a first pulley on the cutter, a second pulley, a tensioned belt engaging both pulleys and drive means for the second pulley. Means are additionally provided for maintaining the relative distance between the pulleys substantially constant when the cutter position is selectively adjusted. Means are also provided for limiting travel of the plane on the door edge.

5094000 - Hand-held power tool with a rotary driven tool - Owned by Black & Decker Inc. (Newark, DE)

A hand-held power tool with a rotary driven tool, in particular a planer or a circular saw, is arranged so that on switching off the drive, which can be switched on and off by means of a trigger (15), a brake element (34), which is ineffective when the drive is switched on, is brought into braking engagement with a brake part (51) rotatingly driven by the drive. The tool comprises a safety element (21) which co-operates with the trigger (15) and which can be displaced between a safety position in which the trigger (15) cannot be moved to switch on the drive, and a release position in which the trigger (15) can be moved into the position to switch on the drive. The safety element (21) is urged by spring pressure towards the safety position and is held in the release position when the trigger (15)L is in the switch-on position. The safety element (21) is coupled mechanically with the brake element (34) so that in the release position of the safety element the brake element is not in the braking engagement, and in the safety position it is in braking engagement.

4674185 - Planer attachment for chain saws

A chain saw attachment for a portable chain saw. The chain saw attachment comprises a cutter head journalled on the cutter axle and having four planing knives, two mounting arms removably securable to the chain saw bar, a chain sprocket engaging and being rotated by the saw chain, a driving sprocket rotated in response to rotation of the chain sprocket, a driven sprocket fixedly attached to the cutter head, and a planer chain engaged by the driving and driven sprockets so as to transmit power from the saw motor to the cutter head. The planing knives are arranged conventionally on the cutter head. The mounting arms the ends of the cutter axle so as to hold the cutter axle and cutter head perpendicularly to the saw bar. A planing guide is provided for use with the planer attachment. The planing guide has two side members, and forward and rearward guide members affixed to and respectively positioned forwardly and rearwardly along the side members so as to define a cutting plane determining the depth of cut of the planing knives. Vertical slots in the side members pivotably mount the planing guide on the ends of the cutter axle and allow the planing guide to be positioned vertically with respect to the cutter axle, thus providing a precise depth adjustment mechanism for maintaining a selected depth of cut.

7168897 - Planing/chamfering attachment for a rotary hand tool - Owned by Robert Bosch GmbH (Stuttgart,DE)

A planing attachment for a rotary hand tool of the type having a generally cylindrical body with an output shaft at a nose end thereof to which a cutting bit can be attached, the attachment being configured at an attaching end to matingly engage the nose end of the hand tool. The attachment includes a housing having an attaching end portion and a planing tool end portion, wherein the attaching end portion is configured to matingly engage the nose end of the rotary hand tool, and a leading plane and a trailing plane are configured wherein one of the planes is disposed on opposite sides of the cutting bit, and wherein the leading plane is elevated relative to the trailing plane by a distance proportional to the depth of cut made by the cutting bit. The attachment further includes a longitudinal cavity disposed between the leading plane and the trailing plane and is configured to receive the cutting bit therein, a cutting bit support disposed at the planing tool end portion of the attachment.
