A vinyl repair compound and two step vinyl repair method provide an exceptionally strong and long wearing repair. The repair compound includes vinyl resins, a solvent, a plasticizer and silica filler, has a paste-like consistency and air dries. The repair process entails the following: trimming away the damaged material, placing backing material behind the damaged area if necessary, filling the repair area flush with the surface of the surrounding material with the repair compound and allowing it to air dry. Due to shrinkage of the compound as it dries, a depression is formed which is then filled with a conventional heat curable plastisol vinyl repair compound. If necessary, smooth or grained release paper is placed over the repair area, heat is applied to cure the plastisol compound and the repair is allowed to cool.
A repair method for repairing a floor, the floor consisting of a cover stratum and a base stratum, the cover stratum having an upper surface and a lower surface, the base stratum having an upper surface, the lower surface of the cover stratum being fixedly attached to the upper surface of the base stratum, the cover stratum having a damaged area, the damaged area consisting of an aperture having an upper and a lower end, the aperture extending from the upper surface of the cover stratum to the lower surface of the cover stratum, the repair method comprising the steps of painting a section of the upper surface of the base stratum, the section painted spanning across the lower end of the aperture; pouring filler into the aperture; and, pouring adhesive into the filler.
A method for repairing a locally damaged, dented surface of a wall, whereby the surface is provided with a relief, as well as a wall comprising a locally repaired surface, which has been repaired by using the method below. A mould comprising an impression of the relief of an undamaged part of the surface is made, the dented surface is filled with a filler, after which the impression on the mould is pressed into the filling material, as a result of which a relief corresponding with the original relief is formed in the filling material.
A method for repairing damaged dashboards and similar articles is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of trimming away damaged material to form a repair area, substantially filling the repair area with an air drying repair compound, allowing said repair compound to air dry, adding a polyester resin to a plastisol material to produce a heat curable repair compound, applying the heat curable repair compound over the air drying repair compound and applying heat to the heat curable repair compound to cure it. The method produces a repair which closely matches the hardness of vinyl and similar plastic materials which are conventionally used to cover dashboards.
A process for repairing surface defects in plastic articles, especially plastic articles formed from fiber reinforced thermosetting resins, includes the steps of applying a powder coating composition to a defective area on the surface of a plastic article, curing the applied powder coating composition through the application of heat, and removing excess cured powder coating composition from the area of the defect to conform the area of the defect to the proper contours of the plastic article. The process can be utilized for repairing surface defects such as porosity, scratches, gouges and sand-through areas of cured thermoset substrates such as automotive body panels formed from sheet or bulk molding compounds.
