The electroviscous suspension is based on a mixture of aqueous silica gel with silicone oil as the liquid phase to which a dispersant is added. The dispersant consists of amino functional or silicon-functional polysiloxanes having a molecular weight above 800. The concentration of the dispersant is from 1 to 30% by weight and preferably from 5 to 20% by weight, based on the silica gel particles. Electroviscous suspensions such as these are distinguished by the fact that they are highly compatible with elastomeric materials, non-sedimenting, non-inflammable and physiologically acceptable. In addition, they are heat- and freeze-resistant over a wide temperature range and are largely unaffected by temperature and pressure in their viscosity.
Electroviscous fluids are disclosed which are composed of aluminum silicates particles in an electrically non-conductive liquid and a suitable dispersing agent. The atomic ratio of Al/Si on the surface of the aluminum silicate lies within the range of 0.15 to 0.80.
Modified heat-curable resins having enhanced toughness are prepared through incorporation of certain secondary amine terminated organosilicones or prereacts of these organosilicones with epoxy, cyanate, or bismaleimide resins. These modified resins are useful as toughened matrix resins, as high temperature, high strength elastomers, and, particularly, as structural adhesives.
Secondary-amino-functional organosilicone are prepared by the reaction of an N-substituted, secondary allylamine with an Si-H functionalized organosilicone particularly a di- or polysiloxane. The resulting products are useful in toughening thermosetting matrix resins, particularly epoxy resins.
The invention relates to an electrorheological fluid comprising fine silica particles, to which an alcohol-modified silicone oil is bonded, compounded with a nonconducting liquid, to which a polarizing agent is added as necessary. Use of fine silica particles of which the surface is modified by an alcohol-modified silicone oil according to the invention provides an electrorheological fluid which have low initial viscosity, high viscosity increase ratio and excellent dispersion stability.
An electro-rheological fluid comprising a hydrophilic solid and a hydrophobic liquid component wherein the hydrophobic liquid component comprises a fluorosilicone whose average molecular weight is in the range 200-700.
