A metal golf club head comprising a face portion, a wing extending from the upper end of said face portion rearwardly thereof. The upper surface of said wing is contoured for coincidence with the radial trajectory of the golf club head during down swinging thereof. A toe portion extends rearwardly from the outer end of the face portion, a sole portion extends rearwardly from the lower end of said head with there being a rearwardly opening recess in said club head defined by the wing, sole portion, toe portion, rearward surface of said face portion and a heel portion at the inner end of said face portion. Said wing and said toe portion may be constructed independently of said head and secured to the face portion thereof as by suitable fasteners.
A golf club head capable of reducing the vibration of the head at the moment of its impact on a golf ball even if the sweet spot is missed, thereby improving the directional property of the ball. The golf club head includes a face plate formed of resin mounted to a face portion of a head main body formed of metal. A flange portion extending backwardly of the head main body is disposed in a back portion of the head main body in a manner to extend along the peripheral edge portion of the back portion and correspond to the peripheral edge portion of the face plate. The flange portion is projected backwardly of the head main body longer than the thickness of the flange portion.
A golf club head includes a metal head body and a face plate made of fiber reinforced resin and fitted to a recess formed in a face portion of the metal head body. A support pin is inserted into the main body from a back portion thereof, threadingly engaged with the face plate and prevented from being exposed on a hitting surface of the face plate. A back portion of the head body is formed with a concave whose outer configuration is substantially the same as that of the face plate. The concave is located at a position of the back portion corresponding to a position of the face plate on the face portion. A central recess is further formed in the back portion within the concave depending on a position of a sweet spot. A flexible member is attached to the central recess. It is possible to reliably prevent the accidental separation of the face plate from the head body, and the damage and/or breakage of the face plate due to the difference in stiffness between the face plate and the metal head body.
An improved golf club head includes a metallic main body 1 having a face side section 2 providing a face side surface for shooting balls. A rearwardly opening gouge 3 is formed within the main body, extending to an end wall 3a provided by the face side section. An FRP plate 4 is inserted into the gouge and attached to the end wall. Presence of the light FRP plate in the face side region allows free weight assignment to other regions for ideal inertia moment adjustment and produces locally laminated face side construction in which thickness ratio of components can be adjusted for better feel at shooting.
