Abstract
A post-rumen effective composition for oral administration to ruminants containing a bioactive substance molecularly dispersed with a basic polymer. The bioactive substance is miscible with the polymer and may be a vitamin, antibiotic, peptide or anti-inflammatory agent. The basic polymer contains from about 1 percent to about 25 percent by weight of nitrogen and is resistant to a pH of greater than about 5 and soluble or swellable at a pH of less than about 3.5.

The present invention relates to absorption resins comprising vinyl copolymers which do not dissolve in water and are capable of adsorbing microorganisms without inactivating the microorganisms and also adsorbents with a large contact area which are capable of adsorbing microorganisms efficiently as well as methods of making the resins and the adsorbents.

5089271 - Stabilized antibiotic compositions for animal feeding - Owned by SmithKline Beecham Corporation (King Prussia, PA)

Stabilized antibiotic composition for animal feeds which provide for improved recovery of the antibiotic from the animal feed. The compositions contain the antibiotic in a coated form. In a preferred embodiment the antibiotic is coated by microencapsulation before being added to the animal feed.

6787150 - Seed coating for bypassing the ruminant digestive tract - Owned by KES Associates (Laguna Beach, CA)

Pasture grass and legume seeds are protected with an outer coating of insoluble fatty acid salts. The coated seeds are fed to ruminants and bypass their digestive tract. When the coated seeds exit the digestive tract in the manure, they provide ranchers a no-till broadcast technique to easily reseed or improve pasture forage. Legume seeds are preferably coated twice, first with Rhizobia and then with the insoluble fatty acid salts. The Rhizobia coating will improve the legume rate of growth. Alternatively, discreet particles of Rhizobia can be coated with insoluble fatty acid salts and fed to the ruminants along with coated legume seeds.

5928687 - Rumen by-pass feed supplement - Owned by Long Trail Enterprises, Inc. (Springfield, MA)

A rumen by-pass feed supplement in the form of a matrix containing up to about 70 percent by weight of at least one biologically active material susceptible to inactivation in the rumen, and a protective substance which is a glyceride-free mixture of aliphatic fatty acids having an Iodine Value between 10 and 20, in an amount effective to both form a fatty acid matrix with the biologically active material and a surface coating impervious to attack in the rumen. Ruminant feeds containing the rumen by-pass feed supplements are also disclosed, as well as processes for supplying the rumen by-pass feed supplements to ruminant animals.

5149775 - Method for purifying high molecular weight vinylpyridine/styrene polymers from solution - Owned by Eastman Kodak Company (Rochester, NY)

Taste-masking composition for oral delivery of medicaments to non-ruminants, especially humans. The taste-masking composition contains a polymeric composition containing a flake material, a hydrophobic material, and a polymer containing repeating units from vinylpyridine derivatives. Also disclosed is a process for purifying polymers.
