Abstract
A reclosable bag having an open end with a side margin adjacent the open end, a metal segment in the side margin having ends extending beyond the opening and a sealing tape overlying the metal strip for encapsulation thereof. Apparatus for manufacturing reclosable bags includes a continuous webbing of flexible bags joined end-to-end, a continuous roll of metal strip with an arrangement for forming the metal strip into discrete segments. A roll of adhesively coated sealing tape and an arrangement for positioning the sealing tape over a metal strip segment while applying the sealing tape to one end of a flexible bag. A method of forming the reclosable bags includes the steps of providing a serial succession of bags joined end-to-end, stretching a portion of each bag so as to be free of wrinkles, aligning a metal strip segment with the wrinkle-free portion of the bag and sealing the metal strip segment of the bag with a portion of sealing tape.

5766399 - Closable bag and method of making same

A method of making continuous rolls of a thin laminate composite that is ideally suited for the large scale production of reclosable bags which can be used for sealably packaging a wide variety of articles, including food products. The bags of the invention, after being opened, can quickly and easily be closed by rolling the open end downwardly upon itself in a manner to sealably deform one or more inelastic, malleable metal filaments which are interconnected with at least one of the laminate side walls of the bag.

6238090 - Reusable bag - Owned by Yuter; Jordan J. (Lafayette Hill, PA)

An elongated reusable bag is divided into a plurality of segmented sections, separated by perforations through the bag. Pocketed openings or through passages are located adjacent to each perforation. The openings or through passages are formed by separate thin paper or plastic sheets or one elongated thin sheet which overlays the exterior of the bag. A flexible, bendable tab member, used to close the top of the bag when the bag is full, is also conveniently used to close the bag after varying amounts of product are removed. As the bag is emptied, the segmented sections of the bag are torn or cut off and removed at the perforations. After a section is removed, the original tab is inserted in one of the pocketed openings or through passages and used to secure the bag at a point at which the product remains in the bag. As the bag continues to be emptied, the next upper section is removed and the same tab is again inserted within the opening or through passage and the bag is again easily, efficiently, and effectively secured.

5228268 - Flexible bag with article encapsulated on one side thereof - Owned by MHB Industrial Corp. (Somerville, MA)

A system and method for encapsulating three dimensional articles on one side of a bag formed by a bag making machine. A conventional bag making machine is modified configuring the drawrollers to allow for passage of the three-dimensional article. Additionally, a feeding station is used which acquires the article, moves the article to a gluing station where an adhesive is applied to the article. The feeding station then moves the article into a fold formed in the bag. The fold is sealed and the bag subsequently formed.

5284002 - Apparatus and method for making a reclosable storage bag - Owned by Simple Packaging Solutions, Inc. (Sausalito, CA)

A storage bag and a method and apparatus for forming such a storage bag. The storage bag contains a reclosure tie formed as an integral marginal portion of the bag beyond an edge of the bag. The marginal portion includes overlying layers of bag material that form an elongated structure along an axis with first and second ends. A fused closure is formed in the marginal portion parallel to the axis and over a portion of the marginal portion spaced from one end thereof. This structure defines a tail and open loop that wrap around an opened bag thereby to close the bag in a positive fashion.
