A process for producing a storage-stable, fine-particle wax dispersion by heating a mixture containing (A) 10% to 80% by weight of a wax, (B) 0.5% to 30% by weight of a hydrophilic nonionic dispersant having an HLB value of 8 to 18, and (C) 1% to 30% by weight of a hydrophobic co-dispersant selected from the group consisting of fatty alcohols containing 12 to 22 carbon atoms and partial esters of polyols containing 3 to 6 carbon atoms with fatty acids containing 12 to 22 carbon atoms, with the proviso that the weight ratio of component (B) to component (C) is in the range from 0.5:1 to 20:1, in the presence of 15% to 85% by weight of water to a temperature above the melting point of the mixture of components (A) to (C) to form a dispersion, heating the dispersion to its phase inversion temperature, and then cooling the dispersion to a temperature below its phase inversion temperature.
A composition in the form of an oil-in-water (o/w) emulsion containing an oily phase dispersed in an aqueous phase, which contains a mixture of nonionic emulsifiers, the mixture being liquid at ambient temperature and having an HLB ranging from about 6 to 13, and in that the oily phase comprises at least about 5% by weight of one or more waxes based on the total weight of the composition, at least one of the waxes having a starting melting temperature of greater than or equal to about 50.degree. C.
Hydrolyzed jojoba protein is provided which can be used in a variety of cosmetic formulations to enhance the desirable properties thereof. The preferred hydrolyzed jojoba is in the form of an aqueous dispersion containing a mixture of amino acids, peptides and/or protein fractions derived from the hydrolysis of naturally occurring jojoba protein. Cosmetic formulations such as shampoos, shampoo conditioners, hair styling gels, hair conditioners, hair reparatives, bath and shower gels, skin lotions and creams, shaving creams, and sunscreens can be improved by incorporation of hydrolyzed jojoba protein therein.
Liposomal bupivacaine compositions are prepared using an ammonium sulfate gradient loading procedure, at a pH which prevents precipitation of the drug from the loading solution. Also described are liposome suspensions comprising `GMV` (giant multivesicular) liposomes and methods for their preparation. The liposomal compositions are characterized by high drug-to-lipid ratios and provide long term analgesia.
An aqueous cosmetic phase-inversion temperature emulsion containing: (a) a wax ester; (b) a triglyceride; (c) a partial glyceride; and (d) a fatty alcohol polyglycol ether.
The present invention pertains to a food ingredient comprising one or more sterols, one or more fats and one or more emulsifiers, as well as to methods of making the food ingredient and food compositions comprising the food ingredient The food ingredient can be used as a cholesterol-lowering agent.
