Abstract
A hooked plate is pivotally attached to a generally straight plate which is strapped between the user's wrist and forearm with the pivot near the wrist. An elastic strip holds the fingers on a tongue on the outer circumference of the hooked plate. The appliance walls, openings, and the fastening arrangement for the strip to the hooked plate and for attaching the straight plate to the users arm are for enabling self mounting on the hand by the quadriplegic user.

6849036 - Gripping device

A conical strap-loop (1) of adjustable size which embraces part of a user's hand (7) in connection with his/her wrist. The loop includes a free-supporting elastic shaft (2) which projects forwards in the direction of the loop axis and includes a curved end-part (3) which is also free-supporting and springly elastic and which is curved through about one-half of a revolution in towards the palm of the user's hand. The width of the curved part (3) corresponds to the width of the user's palm. A handgrip (8), such as the bar of a barbell, can be positioned between the palm of the user's hand and the free end of the curved part so as to be accommodated within said curved part, which is able to straighten out elastically at low loads.

7124536 - Fishing rod holding apparatus and method

A fishing rod holding apparatus which enables the fisherman to resist lateral and twisting loads imposed on the rod by a fish which is pulling the line from one side to the other. The apparatus comprises a forearm mounting section which is connected securely to the forearm, and a hand engagement section which engages the person's hand and also enables a gripping of the handle of the rod. The hand engagement apparatus is able to rotate about a side-to-side axis of rotation, but limits movement about a back-and-forth axis of rotation.

6393615 - Challenger glove for holding objects

A glove for securing an object in a hand of a user includes a wrist portion, palm portion and an opposite dorsal portion. A thumb sleeve and first, second, third and fourth sleeves extend from the palm and dorsal portions. A clasp is attached to the dorsal portion. A strap has one end connected to at least one of the finger sleeves, and a free second end extending outwardly away from the glove. Hook and loop fastening elements are provided on the strap, wherein the strap free second end extends around the object and through the clasp to enable the engagement of the hook and loop fastening elements to secure the object against the glove palm portion. In an alternate embodiment, the strap may be secured to the dorsal portion only using hook and loop fastening elements.

7402148 - Orthotic protective device - Owned by Allsport Dynamics, Inc. (Nacogdoches, TX)

An orthotic protective device collectively including a base unit connected to a metacarpal unit by a hinge system designed to protect and prevent hyperextension and hyperflexion movements of the metacarpal, carpal, radius and ulna regions. The base unit and metacarpal unit includes a longitudinal support member and a casing, respectively, lined with at least one pad having a tongue. At least one releasable fastener is mated to the support member and casing and extends to the tongue of the pad.Apertures of the base unit are mated and connected to apertures of the hinge system which form an articulated joint allowing the hinge system to move in an upward manner allowing for natural extension of the user's wrist and in a downward fashion for unlimited flexion motion. The base unit and the hinge system may both have at least one stop formed thereon; and as these stops come into contact with one another, it limits the flexion, extension and radial-ulnar deviation. Further, an aperture of the metacarpal unit is mated and fastened to an aperture in the hinge system by a swivel joint which allows for lateral movement of the user's wrist.

7051377 - Glove having article locking member

Apparatus for a glove 22 having means 24 for encompassing an article to be gripped. The glove 22 has a planar member 28 extending substantially from the wrist area projecting toward the fingers and curving back towards the palm. The hook-like flap 24 has hook and loop material 30 positioned on the back side that mates with hook and loop material located on the finger tips. In use, the article to be held is positioned between the glove 22 and hook-like member 24 whereupon the hook-like member encompasses a part of the article to be held. Thereafter the fingers are curled until the mating hook and loop member 30 are engaged thereby locking the gloves 22 onto the article to be held. Additionally, means for securing the glove onto the hand using an adjustable wrist strap 26 are disclosed.
