Diseases characterized by disturbances of the serotoninergic system, psychoses and depression are treated by administration of an aminomethyl-chroman of the formula ##STR1##

No. 5,468,882 which is a divisional of application Ser. No. 07/963,203 filed on Oct. 19, 1992, now U.S. Pat. No. 5,318,988.
Chroman derivatives of the formula I ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is acyl having 1-6 C atoms, --CO--R.sup.5 or an amino protective group, R.sup.2 is H or alkyl having 1-6 C atoms, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 in each case independently of one another are H, alkyl having 1-6 C atoms, CN, Hal or COOR.sup.2, R.sup.5 is phenyl which is unsubstituted or mono- or disubstituted by alkyl having 1-6 C atoms, OR.sup.2 or Hal, X is H, H or O, Hal is F, Cl, Br or I, and their salts, are suitable as intermediates in the synthesis of medicaments.
The present invention provides a compound of formula I and the use thereof for the therapeutic treatment of disorders relating to or affected by the 5-HT6 receptor. ##STR1##
