Abstract
A shaped charge engine includes an annular blast-forming chamber formed by joining inner and outer housings. A central through hole in the inner housing allows exhaust gases to exit. The outer housing comprises a generally round disk with an inner conical concave depression and through holes for the insertion of fuel and ignition. The blast chamber is preferably taper-conical in shape, wider at the base, and gradually decreasing in cross-sectional area as it rises to the apex. This construction forms a circular pinch point or throat toward the apex that produces a primary or first stage compression area. A secondary compression zone is created at the apex of the outer housing, just beyond the throat, producing hypersonic gases as generally opposing exhaust streams collide and are forced to exit the through hole in the inner housing. The shaped charge engine may be used in a variety of applications, including as a pulsed direct propulsion device, as a turbine driver, or in a wide array of tools and appliances.

6874452 - Resonant combustion chamber and recycler for linear motors

A combustion chamber system for a spark-ignited linear motor includes an open-ended primary combustion chamber located within a secondary combustion chamber. An unrestricted opening between the primary and secondary combustion chambers provides for more efficient scavenging of combustion byproducts. A compression wave trigged by a spark-ignited flame front within the primary combustion chamber is reflected within the secondary combustion. Upon return, the compression wave effectively closes the unrestricted opening of the primary combustion chamber by colliding with the flame front and forcing flame jets through smaller openings in the primary combustion chamber into the secondary combustion chamber for accelerating combustion within the secondary combustion chamber.

6997145 - Recycler for linear motor

A recycling system for linear motors includes a dual piston within a cylinder housing that is moved from an upper position to a lower position by combustion pressure such that a first portion of the piston pumps compressed air from a first air chamber within a first bore of the cylinder housing and a second portion of the piston pumps compressed air from a second air chamber within a second larger bore of the cylinder housing. An exhaust valve is opened by the compressed air for venting the combustion chamber to atmosphere. The dual piston moves within the cylinder housing from the lower position to the upper position assisted by the compressed air such that a portion of the volume of the combustion chamber is converted into a portion of the volume of the second air chamber. A control valve is opened in response to movement of the dual piston through the upper position for allowing airflow from the second air chamber into the combustion chamber.
