Candles are disclosed that include a wick, a first phase and a second phase. In one embodiment, the first phase is substantially clear and has a first melting point, the second phase is visually distinct from the first phase and has a second melting point, and the second melting point is greater than or about equal to the first melting point. In another embodiment, the first phase contains a first concentration of gellant in first solvent, the second phase contains a second concentration of gellant in second solvent, and the first and second concentrations are non-identical. In another embodiment, the first and second phases each contain gellant, however the second phase contains components not present in the first phase.

This application claims the benefit of priority from abandoned U.S. provisional patent application No. 60/137,056, filed Jun. 1, 1999, the entire disclosure of which is hereby incorporated herein by reference.
Disclosed is a decorative candle containing a glitter material and a suitable candle matrix. The glitter material is selected so as to minimize safety, regulatory or toxicity concerns, such as may exist with the use in candles of conventional glitter materials. The glitter material is further selected such that conventional candle matrices and conventional processing techniques can be utilized for preparation of the decorative candle.
The present invention is a candle composition containing a vegetable lipid base component and a candle formed from the composition. The candle composition may contain up to 100 percent by weight of a vegetable lipid base component. The candle composition may further contain a plant derived crystal modifier.
Described for the purpose of application to an inanimate laminar substantially solid surface is a substantially hydrocarbon-free functional substance-providing stick article having consistently-maintained functional composition integrity comprising a stiff, substantially monophasic, thermally-reversible hydrocarbon-free composition consisting essentially of a mixture of: (a) a structural support polymer containing an ester-terminated polyamide and/or at least one tertiary amide-terminated polyamide; (b) a high concentration of a system-compatible functional composition which is one or more of a perfume composition, an insect repellant composition, an animal repellant composition, an anti-microbial composition, an insect attractant composition and/or an air freshener composition; and (c) at least one compatible operativeness organic acid ester and/or metal salt additive which enables the stick, prior to, during and subsequent to application thereof to the inanimate laminar substantially solid surface, to have retained stiffness, pliability, durability, consistency, lack of tackiness, and a relatively high degree of glide, and to cause the inanimate laminar substantially solid surface to which the stick is applied to have a high degree of surface rinsability immediately subsequent to application of the stick. Also described is a package for conveniently handling and utilizing the stick article.
A candle assembly includes a support base, a melting plate having a capillary pedestal, a wick holder that fits onto the capillary pedestal, and a fuel element that fits over the wick holder. The wick holder includes a sleeve having first and second open ends. A wick fits into the sleeve and extends between the open ends. The sleeve has a constricted portion, which is disposed between the open ends and has a cross-sectional area less than any other cross-sectional area between the open ends. The constricted portion reduces an effective capillary fluid flow capacity of the wick between the open ends, which may thereby regulate how quickly fuel is consumed when the candle assembly is burning. A capillary well disposed between the wick holder and the capillary pedestal may be adapted to promote a successful relight after an initial burn of the candle assembly. A candle holder, such as including the melting plate supported by a base, may be adapted to promote laminar air flow thereacross during a burn in a substantially calm atmospheric environment.
A wick-holder assembly includes a wick-retention member for retaining a wick thereto and a heat-conductive element extending from a base portion. The heat-conductive element may include materials having different thermal expansion coefficients. The materials may be arranged to interact to cause a portion of the heat-conductive element to move in response to a flame disposed on the wick.
