The present invention, generally speaking, provides a broad-based solution for acquisition, processing and distribution of media objects including pictures (images), movies, videos, graphics, sound clips, etc via the Internet or the like. And specifically, it is a solution to such systems for use in applications wherein there are multiple originators of media objects that will be viewed in multiple web sites having different viewing requirements. A browser-based Aprepare and post@ tool prepares and submits media objects from inside a standard browser to a remote server. A Media Acquisition, Processing and Distribution (MAPD) system receives these media objects, processes them to meet specific requirements, and delivers them for integration into remote databases. MAPD system services include media object submission, processing, hosting and mirroring. The hosting service delivers a media object URL to a remote database, allowing the media object to be requested and served by the media object server. The mirroring service delivers the actual media object to multi-point remote databases to be stored and served by the customer.
The present application is related by subject matter to U.S. application Ser. No. 09/357,836 (Atty. Dkt. No. 032374-003) entitled Web-Based Media Submission Tool, filed on Jul. 21, 1999 and incorporated herein by reference.
Systems and methods for digital negatives are described. In one aspect, a digital negative is created on a computing device from a digital image. The digital image is linked to the digital negative. In response to a save operation associated with the digital image, a new digital image is generated and bi-directionally connected to the digital negative. In response to a revert operation associated with the new digital image, contents of the new digital image are replaced with contents of the digital negative.
Methods and systems for providing a network communication status description based on user characteristics. The techniques receive a status indication from a first networked computer in response to a user's request for information and determine one or more characteristics of the user who issued the request. The techniques provide a status description based on the status indication and the determined characteristics of the user (e.g., a preferred language).
A method and/or a system for loading files on a server. An exemplary method communicates an information-containing file from a client to a server, generates an applet based on the information contained in the file, communicates the applet from the server to the client, executes the applet on the client to thereby cause a search for an additional file and communicates the additional file to the server.
A method and system for managing digital image media files. A server is provided for managing access to a digital image media collection stored on a remote user computer of a user. The digital image media collection has at least one digital media file having at least one image file of a predetermined resolution. The server communicates over a communication network with a user computer that provides initial authorization for managing of the digital images. The system provides automatic controlled access to the at least one digital media file in the user computer without any further authorization by the user.
Systems and methods for facilitating the sale of classified ad items are provided. According to one embodiment, a linkage is created between a print advertisement and an online counterpart. Consumers are encouraged to view and/or purchase online an item for sale in the print classified ad. For example, a graphic, text, icon or other indicia may indicate the item is also accessible in an online environment. According to another embodiment, ad data for an e-commerce enabled online classified advertisement is originated by a periodical publisher via a call center and passed to the e-commerce system. In another embodiment, consumers placing an order for an advertisement are provided with multiple e-commerce selling format options that define the manner in which an e-commerce application will attempt to sell the subject of the ad. For example, the consumer may select a fixed price, a negotiated price, or an auction selling format.
