A process is provided for producing trichlorethylene, tetrachlorethylene or mixtures thereof including the steps of (1) reacting chlorine and ethylene in a liquid body containing predominantly chlorethanes, which chlorethanes have an average composition of at least 2.5 chlorine atoms per molecule; (2) maintaining the chlorethanes at a temperature in the range of 0.degree. to 250.degree. C.; (3) removing at least a portion of said chlorethanes and separating said removed material into a heavier p...
Process for the conversion of saturated chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons containing two or three carbon atoms, to produce unsaturated chlorinated hydrocarbons, featuring the incorporation of iodine or an iodoalkane having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, to promote the operation.
In the process of producing vinyl chloride by incomplete thermal cracking of 1,2-dichloroethane at elevated pressure and at temperatures between about 450.degree. and 650.degree.C, in the absence of catalysts, wherein the gas mixture which leaves the cracking zone, and which consists of vinyl chloride, hydrogen chloride, unreacted 1,2-dichloroethane, and also by-products, is passed in the partly condensed stage into a first distillation stage for distilling off the hydrogen chloride and then to ...
A novel process for the production of compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein A and A.sub.1, independently of one another, denote phenyl, naphthyl, diphenylyl, 2-phenyl-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl or pyridyl, it being possible for A and A.sub.1 to contain non-chromophoric substituents, and D denotes 4,4'-diphenylylene,1,5- or 2,6-naphthylene, or a 9,10-dihydrophenanthrene or dibenzofurane radical which is bonded to the vinylene groups in the 2,7-position, which comprises reacting in a first stage a com...
Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R.sup.o are lower alkyl, R' is optionally substituted phenyl or 2-thienyl and n is 0 to 2, and their salt forms, are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula: ##STR2## with an aromatic nitrile and strong base, and quenching with water when the free base form is desired, said first mentioned compounds being intermediates for quinazolinones.
A process for preparing urea by the intermediate formation of ammonium carbamate is disclosed, wherein the process involves reduced use of high pressure steam, and the reduced production, as a by-product, of low pressure steam, compared to prior art processes. Ammonium carbamate is formed from ammonia and carbon dioxide in a first reaction zone at a pressure of 90 - 140 atmospheres. Thereafter, the ammonium carbamate is partly converted into urea in a second reaction zone at about the same press...
Oximes and hydroxylamines are prepared by reacting a primary amine, the amino group of which is attached to a primary or secondary carbon atom, with an organic hydroperoxide in the presence of a catalytic amount of a compound of Ti, V, Cr, Se, Zr, Nb, Mo, Te, Ta, W, Re, or U.
The present invention provides new distyrylbenzene derivatives of the formula ##SPC1## Wherein R.sub.1 represents hydrogen or chlorine and, if R.sub.1 represents chlorine, the chlorine atoms assume the positions 2, 4 or 3, 4, and M denotes a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal ion or an ammonium ion. These new compounds are useful optical brighteners for organic materials, especially cellulose and polyamide.
