The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for extruding continuously molded bodies, wherein an extrusion solution, in particular an extrusion solution containing water, cellulose and a tertiary amine oxide, is extruded through an extrusion orifice into a continuously molded body and is then deflected by means of a deflector (7). To improve the quality of the continuously molded bodies produced by the method or apparatus of the invention, the extrusion orifices are arranged in a ...
A thixotropic oxidizer gel comprising inhibited red fuming nitric acid (IA) as the carrier with lithium nitrate (LiNO.sub.3) suspended therein and gelled with a gellant agent of SiO.sub.2 having a mean particle size of 0.015 microns has the rheological properties which can be tailored to match those of MICOM GEL, a fuel gel. A thixotropic gelled fuel (MICOM GEL) has been of particular interest because of its increased safety, reduced sloshing, ease of pumping at zero gravity and ability to suspe...
Molybdenum disilicide base materials and methods for producing them are described. Mixtures of MoSi.sub.2 powder and other powders including SiO.sub.2, Si.sub.3 N.sub.4, SiC and Mo.sub.5 Si.sub.3 are plasma sprayed. Another embodiment which involves oxidation of MoSi.sub.2 is also disclosed. The resistant materials have particular utility as coatings for Nb alloys.
A composite material is disclosed along with the method of making the same. The material comprises a tough grade of cemented carbide granule dispersed with a hard brittle grade of cemented carbide granules to form a matrix. The quantity of hard, brittle cemented carbide granules is between 20% to 60% of the total composition. Such material functions to improve wear resistance without sacrificing toughness.
A method of molding reinforced polymer compositions using a molding machine with a tapered bore is provided. The method has particular application in molding polymer that is reinforced with particles having an aspect ratio that is greater than 1:1. The plunger machine used in the method includes a barrel housing with a smooth walled barrel with longitudinal fins projecting inwardly towards the center of the bore that defines a main melt chamber. A plunger housing, having a plunger bore, defines ...
A multiple cavity (30a, 30b) mold die (10) and method for molding binder coated wood flakes (12) into multiple three dimensionally curved wood strand parts. Vertical walls (28, 32) shear a felted mat (11) of binder coated wood flakes as the mold is closed.
A process for making engineered lignocellulosic-based panels with superior strength and dimensional stability. The process comprising adding to green lignocellulosic particles a low-nitrogen content, high molecular weight, phenol-formaldehyde resin before the green particles are dried. The resin is added in an amount from about 1 to 25 weight percent based on the dry weight of the green lignocellulosic particles. The resin has a nitrogen content of from about 0 to 3%, a viscosity of from about 2...
A solution casting process for producing cellulose triacetate (TAC) film is provided. Bead of dope, which includes cellulose triacetate and solvent, is cast on to a rotating supporting drum, to form self-supporting cast film. The self-supporting cast film is stripped from the supporting drum. The self-supporting cast film is dried while the self-supporting cast film being stripped is fed by feed rollers, to form the cellulose triacetate film. A surface temperature of the feed rollers is set equa...
A composite has a magnesium base metal matrix and a reinforcing phase. The composite is produced from a charge containing a rapidly solidified magnesium base alloy and particles of a reinforcing material present in an amount ranging from about 0.1 to 50 percent by volume of the charge. Ball milling the charge energetically enfolds metal matrix material around each of the particles, while maintaining the charge in a pulverant state. Consolidation of the charge provides a mechanically formable, su...
An improved thermal barrier coating is disclosed. The coating is formed on a metal part to be exposed to high temperature gases. The metal part is first coated with an adherent sublayer of MCrAlY alloy. In this case, the M of the MCrAlY is nickel, cobalt, iron, or some combination of these metals. A diffused layer of MCrAlY combined with a low concentration of mullite is formed over the MCrAlY subcoating and the mullite is increased in concentration as the thickness of the layer increases. The o...
