Copies (22) of preferably folded or stitched printed matter are transferred by means of a loading device (20) from a preceding station to a stacking device (30). The copies (22) are stacked in the stacking means (30) into stacks (120), positioned on a bottom (96). The bottom (96) can be lowered together with the stack (120) lying thereon. During this movement, the bottom is lowered simultaneously into a banding means (106) which applies itself to the bottom and the side walls of the stack. There...
A plurality of article carriers are stacked in vertical inverted relationship in a hopper and are supported on a cantilever type support bar mounted at one end only and having its free end extending in one direction so that a plurality of carrier applicator blocks mounted on an endless chain may withdraw sequentially the lowermost carrier from the hopper, each applicator block having a clearance slot therein for slidably receiving the support bar and each applicator block having abutment means d...
In the packaging of moist towelettes in sealed envelopes part of the liquid is inserted before the towellette is thrust into the envelope and the balance is subsequently injected.
An apparatus and method for folding the gable top of gable top containers into a flat condition preparatory to packing a plurality of such containers into a carton so as to avoid wasted volume during transport of such containers. A gable top container having an extra score line to facilitate such folding of the gable top.
Bag holding and opening apparatus that comprises a container adapted to hold a stack of folded paper bags on a platform which is spring supported and by which the stack of bags are pressed against an abrasive faced roller that engages the top bag at a point adjacent the thumb hole at the open end thereof and frictionally holds said bag, whereby when the bottom end of said top bag is pulled outwardly the bag is opened.
A vacuum packaging machine is disclosed for the production of packages from two different packaging material webs, one having printing marks on it. By controlling the movement of the individual working stations in accordance with the spacing of the printing marks the correct position of the imprinted cover foils on the formed trays is achieved.
The invention contemplates a method of making a pressurized container for viscous foods or other viscous products in which the body of the piston has a substantially smaller diameter than the diameter of the container. The outer periphery of the piston is provided with a resilient flange member that maintains a light sealing pressure on the interior surfaces of the container, allowing the piston to move smoothly upwardly within the container. The inventive method provides enhanced assurance agai...
An apparatus and method to accumulate a desired array for packaging and to transfer them as a unit to a casing machine. One or more rows of the containers are accumulated, each in the desired number, between side guides. The guides are then removed and the accumulated array is moved laterally as a unit to the packaging machine. In other embodiments the unit of containers is moved vertically and the guides need not be removed.
A mechanism for forming seals at spaced points along the length of a body of web material moved through the mechanism is comprised of two sealing jaws and a simple device for opening and closing the jaws whereby the mechanism consists of a small number of parts and may be made at a relatively low cost and to have a relatively light weight. The jaws are slidably supported relative to a base for pure linear motion and are moved between their open and closed conditions by an air cylinder or other f...
A device for feeding wrapping material of flaccid type for use in a wrapping machine. Initially an elongate strip of the flaccid material is moved forward, and is only partly transversely cut to define sheets which can thereafter be torn from the strip. The sheets are left under control, as to their exact positions, until they are taken by the wrapping mechanism, along with the product to be wrapped. For this purpose the partly cut strip of flaccid wrapping material is guided and moved forward b...
