A circuit and method for charging batteries while a power supply also powers a dynamically varying load. All power in excess of that required by the load is used by a power converter to charge the batteries. The circuit advantageously allows the load to change from external power to battery power without switching delays.
Reaction Bonded Ceramics for Ceramic Composite Materials Comprising Mullite as the Main Component and Corundum and Thortveitite or Cerianite as Minor Components The present invention pertains to reaction bonded mullite-containing ceramic molded parts, a process for their preparation and their use. A particular embodiment of the present invention consists in reaction bonded mullite-containing ceramic molded parts, obtainable by the heat-treatment of a finely dispersed mixture of an aluminum-conta...
A method and apparatus for reconnecting stumps of transected cable-like organs, such as nerves, is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a template and a connector. The connector has inscribed guide lines that indicate proper placement of the nerve stumps for optimum healing. The nerve stumps are connected to the connector, trimmed and the template is removed.
In order to provide a rare earth oxide-alumina type sintered body having no defect such as void and pore, and high strength, toughness and reliability, silica is added to a mixture of rare earth oxide and alumina to control a crystal grain size of the sintered body to not more than 30 .mu.m, whereby abnormal grain growth and occurrence of pore are restrained to produce a practically usable rare earth oxide-alumina-silica sintered body having excellent strength and toughness and uniform structure...

An earplug for use by an underwater diver includes a tubular vessel of soft flexible material adapted for insertion into the auditory meatus, a plurality of sealing rings surrounding the vessel to seat against the interior surface of the auditory meatus to provide a watertight seal, and a flexible inner vessel end inwardly rolled back upon itself to define a variable volume between the inner end, the interior surface of the auditory meatus, and the eardrum. The variable volume expands and contra...
A new and improved pneumatically shaped ear plug comprising and constructed of an elastomeric hollow body of sheet material dimensioned to and constructed for being inserted into the ear canal or ear cavity, and end of the cylindrical hollow body being of a material performing as a diaphragmatic member so that when it is depressed, the volume of air therein extends the cylindrical side, and vice versa, said end member having a lead or handle means for retracting said diaphragm when it is depress...
An ear plug wherein an elongated slug of nonslumping silicone putty is enclosed in a thin cocoon of synthetic organic polmeric film drawn over the tip end of the ear plug and gathered at the base end of the ear plug. The gathering of the film forms longitudinally extending folds or grooves on the exterior of the ear plug. The gather at the base end of the ear plug is tied, and the excess polmeric film is fused down to form an integral knob adjacent to or fused with the tie off member by which th...
The invention relates to an ear plug to be inserted into the auditory meatus of an ear, having an exterior member of a soft flexible material and an interior tubular member which extends through the exterior member from one end thereof, and having manually operable means, operatively connected with the exterior as well as the interior member, operable to cause an expansion of the exterior member and thereby engage the exterior member firmly against the wall of the auditory canal.
Earplug assemblies are provided for mounting at the ends of a resilient band, which readily deform to tightly seal to the walls of the ear that surround the entrance to the ear canal. Each assembly includes a shell having a closed forward end that presses against the ear and an open rear end that receives an armature mounted on the band. The shell has a front end tapered at a large angle such as 90.degree., while the armature has a forward portion tapered at a small angle such as 20.degree., to ...
