1,150,512. Road rollers. STAVOSTROJ NARODNI PODNIK. 14 Sept., 1967, No. 42043/67. Heading B7H. A road roller includes a steerable roller cylinder rotatably mounted in a horizontal U-shaped yoke 3 connected through an upwardly extending arm 4 to the roller frame 7, there being provided means to permit pivotal movement of the cylinder relative to the frame in both the horizontal and vertical planes containing the axis of rotation of the cylinder. As shown, the arm 4 is inclined towards the vertical plane containing the cylinder axis and carries a horizontal pin 8 which pivots in a bearing 9 carried by a vertical pivot pin 6 mounted in a bearing 5 on the frame. In another embodiment the arm is connected directly to the vertical pivot pin and a horizontal pivot pin connects the yoke to the arm.

Claims
WHAT WE CLAIM IS:-
1. A road roller comprising a steerable roller mounted for rotation within a substantially horizontally disposed U-shaped yoke which is connected to a support frame of the machine by an upwardly extending arm which is inclined towards the vertical plane containing the axis of rotation of the steerable roller, means to permit pivotal movement of the steerable roller within the horizontal plane containing the axis of rotation of the steerable roller, and means to permit pivotable movement of the steerable roller within the vertical plane containing the axis of rotation thereof.
2. A road roller according to claim 1 in i12 which the arm is connected to said yoke at a position substantially midway along that portion of the yoke which extends substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the steerable roller.
3. A road roller according to claim 1 or claim 2 in which the arm is rigidly secured to the yoke and in which the means to permit pivotal movement of the steerable roller within the horizontal plane comprises an upwardly extending pin pivotally connected at one end of the end of the arm remote from the yoke by said means to permit pivotal movement within the vertical plane and mounted for pivotal movement within a bearing carried by said support form, said means to permit pivotal movement of the steerable roller within the vertical plane comprising a horizontallyextending pin secured to that end of the arm remote from the yoke which is mounted for pivotal movement within a bearing.
4. A road roller according to claim 1 or claim 2 in which the means to permit pivotal movement of the steerable roller within the horizontal plane comprises an upwardly extending pin secured to that end of the arm remote from the yoke, which pin is mounted for pivotal movement within a bearing carried by said support frame, and in which the means to permit pivotal movement of the steerable roller within the vertical plane comprises a horizontally extending pin which pivotally connects that portion of the yoke which extends substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the steerable roller to the other end of the arm.
5. A road roller comprising a steerable roller mounted for rotation within a generally horizontally disposed U-shaped yoke which is connected to a support frame by an arm which extends upwardly from a central portion of said yoke to said support frame, the connection between said steerable roller and said support frame being such that the steerable roller can pivot within the horizontal plane containing the axis of rotation of the roller and within the vertical plane containing the axis of rotation of the roller.
6. A road roller substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawing.

Improvements in or relating to Road Rollers We, STAVOSTRO1 NARODNI PODNiK, a Czechoslovakian body corporate, of Nove Mesto nad Metuji, Czechoslovakia, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: -
The invention relates to road rollers.
According to the present invention there is provided a road roller comprising a steerable roller mounted for rotation within a substantially horizontally disposed U-shaped yoke which is connected to a support frame of the machine by an upwardly extending arm which is inclined towards the vertical plane containing the axis of rotation of the steerable roller, means to permit pivotal movement of the steerable roller within the horizontal plane containing the axis of rotation of the steerable roller, and means to permit pivotal movement of the steerable roller within the vertical plane containing the axis of rotation thereof.
Further according to the present invention there is provided a road roller comprising a steerable roller mounted for rotation within a generally horizontally disposed U-shaped yoke which is connected to a support frame by an arm which extends upwardly from a central portion of said yoke to said support frame, the connection between said steerable roller and said support frame being such that the steerable roller can pivot within the horizontal plane containing the axis of rotation of the roller and within the vertical plane containing the axis of rotation of the roller.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawing, in which:
Figures 1 and 2 show a side view and top plan view respectively of a road roller in accordance with the invention; Figure 3 is a side view partly in section of a detail of a road roller in accordance with the invention; and [Price 4s. 6d.] Figure 4 is a side view partly in section of a detail of a further road roller in accordance with the invention.
A steerable roller or cylinder 1 (Figure 1) of a road roller is rotatably mounted by its axle 2 in a yoke 3. Secured to the yoke 3 is a centrally situated and obliquely upwardly directed supporting arm 4, which is connected at its upper end to a supporting frame 7 of the road roller by an upwardly extending pin 6 mounted for pivotal movement in a bearing 5.
This mounting makes the turning of the cylinder 1 in the horizontal plane containing the axis of rotation of the cylinder possible.
If the supporting arm 4 is connected fast to the yoke 3, as shown in Figure 3 then pivotal movement of the cylinder in the vertical plane which contains the axis of rotation of the cylinder is made possible by a horizontally disposed pin 8 which is carried by the supporting arm 4 and which is mounted for pivotal movement in a bearing 9 carried by the pin 6.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 4, the pivotal movement of the cylinder in the vertical plane which contains the axis of rotation of the cylinder is achieved by the connection of the yoke 3 to. the supporting arm 4 bv means of a horizontally disposed pin 10.
