An apparatus for use with a servomechanism having a transducer coupled to a movable element and producing a quantized feedback signal. The apparatus provides a dither signal on an output of the feedback element at a frequency which keeps the servomechanism from changing the position of the element from a desired position.
A dither arrangement or dither spring comprises an outer portion 1 for being secured to a fixed structure, an inner mounting stub 9 for being attached to a sensor such as a laser gyro and a series of three counter-balanced inertias 10 which together have the same inertia as the sensor. The inertias 10 are connected by spoke 6 to flexible pivots 4, to which the mounting stub 9 is also connected by spokes 5.
A dither motor reed apparatus for use in a dither motor which includes a hub member and an outer support housing. The dither motor reed apparatus has a robust inner section having a hub end and a first joining end and an outer section which is more limber than the robust inner section. The hub end of the robust inner section is rigidly affixed to the hub member. The outer section of the reed has a support end and a second joining end. The outer section's second joining end is integrally affixed ...
This invention is an electric controller which superimposes an oscillating signal on a load signal with feedback for controlling the resultant output signal. More specifically the invention has a mechanical element, particularly a poppet valve, that is operated by a signal applied to an actuator coil; and the superimposed oscillating signal causes dither of the mechanical element to overcome static friction and hysteresis. In the preferred construction, the dither signal passes from an inverting...
An improved system for transmission of either still or moving pictures, w or without scan interlace, and using only coarse quantization of the picture luminance, for conserving transmission channel capacity. This improvement is accomplished by combining the picture with a novel, two-dimensional ordered dither pattern. This pattern is arranged so that, without requiring expensive and complex synchronous subtraction of the dither signal at the receiver, and while operating with coarse quantization...
Methods and systems for applying digital dither includes methods and systems for applying digital dither in data converters, such as, for example, delta-sigma data converters. In an embodiment, an analog signal from a first path of a delta-sigma modulator is quantized to an m-bit digital signal and an n-bit dithered digital feedback signal is generated from at least a portion of the m-bit digital signal. The n-bit dithered digital feedback signal is converted to an analog feedback signal and fed...
While a general large layer dither volume provides great flexibility in dither cell design, by decoupling different intensity levels, they are inefficient to access since each color component requires the retrieval of a different bit from the volume. Therefore in a multi threshold dither volume for digital halftoning a contone color image, in the form of an array of contone color pixel values to bi-level dots, there is allocated for each dither cell location a fixed set of n thresholds defining ...
A dither circuit for improving linearity in A/D or D/A conversion by adding dither to an input signal of an A/D or D/A converter and subtracting dither from an output signal of the A/D or D/A converter. The dither circuit comprises a dither generator for supplying dither to the input and output signals for addition and subtraction of the dither and dither level changing means for detecting the level of the input signal to the A/D or D/A converter for controlling the dither generator to change th...
A ring laser gyroscope or other motion sensor is dithered at a first rate if a global positioning signal is available and/or when alignment is not being performed, and is dithered at a second rate if a global positioning signal is not available and/or when alignment is being performed. The second rate is greater than the first rate.
A mechanically actuated tuner of a microwave tube, such as a coaxial magnetron, is driven into reciprocal rectilinear translation relative to the microwave circuit for tuning thereof at a relatively high rate, as of 200Hz, over a relatively wide band of frequencies, as of 250MHz. The tuner is driven via a motorized tuner actuator assembly including a circular rail cam having a scalloped rail on which a pair of followers ride for converting circular motion of one of the members into the reciproca...
