A process for hydrogenation of an unsaturated hydrocarbon feedstock at an elevated temperature and pressure in a hydrogenation zone by (a) contacting the feedstock, in the presence of hydrogen, with a hydrogenating catalyst containing at least one noble metal on an alumina support and containing no essentially irreversibly sulfided metal (such as nickel, cobalt, or molybdenum), and (b) adding a chloride to the hydrogenation zone and reacting the chloride with the catalyst in an amount sufficient...
A contact fixing device for fixing electrostatic marking particles carried on a support material is disclosed. The device includes a rotatably mounted fixing roller, a container for a supply of offset preventing material and applicator means for spraying the offset preventing material directly onto the peripheral surface of the fixing roller. Control means are provided for activating the applicator means after a predetermined period of operation of the fixing roller.
Apparatus for monitoring fetal health during labor detects the occurrence of a fetal ECG in digital signals derived from electrodes on a fetus using a matched filter routine to detect a QRS complex. The peaks of successive R waves are then found and used to determine fetal heart rate. After time coherent filtering of digital samples representing the fetal ECG the P-R interval and the elevation of the S-T interval are found and a correlation coefficient between the fetal heart rate and the P-R in...
Process for the production of undegraded alkylated aromatic compounds by alkylating an aromatic compound with a C.sub.3 or higher olefin polymer having terminal ethylene units.
The converter obtains an efficient conversion of solar electromagnetic radiation into electrical power. A p-n junction is fabricated close to an optical surface of a region of n-type GaAs which is receptive of the solar radiation. There is a window on the optical surface consisting of a window layer of Ga.sub.1.sub.-x Al.sub.x As, where x is less than one and greater than zero with a composition to cause the window layer to contribute selectively to absorbing and transmitting certain components ...
An apparatus for operating during earthquake which should be stopped to prevent an accident by detecting earthquake is provided. The apparatus detects an initial slight earthquake shock to perform a preliminary operation for earthquake by a first control device. When higher vibration is not detected within a specific time, the apparatus is reset. When high vibration is detected, an operation for earthquake including the stop of the apparatus is performed by a second control device.
A restraint comprises a multiplicity of flexible bubbles which are encased in an air-tight envelope of film material. The bubbles are soft, having a Shore A Durometer rating of 10 or less. When air inside the envelope is withdrawn, the restraint molds to the shape of the animate or inanimate object which it surrounds. The restraint becomes surprising rigid but remains soft and pliable. Another embodiment of the invention is particularly designed as an infant carrier.
Gas influx into a wellbore, called A "kick", is detected by two different, yet complementary methods during active drilling of the borehole. The first method is based upon the existence of standing wave patterns generated by pressure oscillations of the drilling rig mud pumps. Such standing wave patterns form time sequences of maximum and minima as a gas slug moves upwardly in the annulus. The time between such peaks of such oscillations is measured and forms the basis for generation of one firs...
Many available coals are "caking coals" which possess the undesirable characteristic of fusing into a solid mass when heated through their plastic temperature range (about 400.degree. C.) which temperature range is involved in many common treatment processes such as gasification, hydrogenation, carbonization and the like. Unless the caking properties are first destroyed, the coal cannot be satisfactorily used in such processes. A process is disclosed herein for decaking finely divided coal durin...
A semiconductor substrate having thereon a surface including features to be filled is placed in a vacuum chamber having a high density plasma source and a target of material to be deposited. A vacuum is drawn, and a plasma is struck in a gas by means of the high density plasma source. The substrate is then biased to cause ions from the plasma to bombard the substrate with energies sufficient to facet top corners of features on the surface of the substrate. After a desired amount of faceting has ...
