This invention relates to an explosive. It relates in particular to the manufacture of an emulsion explosive comprising a discontinuous phase which forms an oxidizing salt-containing component and a continuous phase which is immiscible with the discontinuous phase and which forms a fuel component.
Explosive composition of water-in-oil, containing as a continuous phase a carbonaceous fuel and as a discontinuous phase an oxygen-releasing aqueous salt solution, the continuous phase containing a water-insoluble lipophilic viscosity index improver for the purpose of controlling the consistency.
The invention concerns an emulsion explosive of the water-in-fuel type which has as its discontinuous phase an oxidizing salt-containing component, and as its continuous phase a fuel component which is immiscible with the discontinuous phase, the continuous phase comprising at least a proportion of polymer in liquid form or in finely divided particle form. A method of making the explosive is also described.
In a process for the production of a `water-in-fuel` or `melt-in-fuel` emulsion explosive a density-reducing agent is introduced and dispersed in the emulsion at an elevated temperature whereat the emulsion is essentially liquid, the explosive is cartridged and then subsequently cooled by means of a refrigerated fluid so that the continuous phase solidifies and stabilizes the dispersion of the density-reducing agent in the explosive. Preferably, when the density-reducing agent comprises gas bubb...
Lead-free primary explosives of the formula [M.sup.II(A).sub.R(B.sup.X).sub.S](C.sup.Y).sub.T, where A is 1,5-diaminotetrazole, and syntheses thereof are described. Substantially stoichiometric equivalents of the reactants lead to high yields of pure compositions thereby avoiding dangerous purification steps.
The present invention provides a multi-component explosive composition coising 2-ethylhexyl nitrate and a granular solid oxidizer. An optional additional component is a second fuel, e.g., aluminum. An optional component in the absence of the second fuel is azodicarbonamide. Methods for making the explosive are provided.
An explosive primer designed for use with a fuse cord and an initiating device. The primer consists of a container, which holds the explosive, and a cap received on the open end of the container. The container has two lateral opposing cord tunnels which run the length of the container. The cord tunnels protect the fuse cord on the inside of the primer. The cap has two apertures which align with cord tunnels in the container. The cap has capwell for receiving the detonator. The capwell is piercea...
Composition comprising cyclotrimethylene-trinitramine (RDX) coated with a shock sensitivity reducing agent whereby the shock sensitivity of the composition is reduced a statistically significant amount.
Composition comprising cyclotetramethylene-tetranitramine (HMX) coated with a shock sensitivity reducing agent whereby the shock sensitivity of the composition is reduced a statistically significant amount.
Composition comprising 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitrohexaazoisonurtitane (CL-20) coated with a shock sensitivity reducing agent whereby the shock sensitivity of the composition is reduced a statistically significant amount.
