Particles suitable for inclusion in a dry product or article, typically a laundry powder, comprise a core of swellable material, e.g. an organic polymer, containing perfume absorbed therein, the core being coated with water-soluble encapsulating material impervious to the perfume. The coating of the particles acts to prevent premature evaporation or dissipation from the particles of the loaded perfume until the coating is dissolved on contact with water in use.
The invention provides electroconductive particles comprising a styrene copolymer core and an external gold coating, characterised in that as said copolymer core is used a styrene copolymer comprising less than 50 wt. % styrene residues.
A particulate composition comprising particles having a core comprising a hydrophobic polymer within a shell, characterised in that the shell comprises a semi-permeable membrane. Particulate composition can be used for making a stable dispersion of particles uniformly distributed throughout a first hydrophobic liquid, wherein the particles comprise a core within a shell and the core comprises a hydrophobic polymer into has been imbibed a second hydrophobic liquid, Compositions can be used to enc...
Base particles for supporting a surfactant, obtainable by a step of spray-drying a slurry comprising (A) a zeolite having an average aggregate particle diameter of 15 .mu.m or less and a variation coefficient of a distribution of an aggregate particle diameter of 29% or less, (B) a water-soluble polymer; (C) a water-soluble salt, and (D) a surfactant in an amount of 5% by weight or less of the slurry; detergent particles comprising the base particles; and a zeolite for a laundry detergent, where...
A centrifugal impact mill is provided with a rotor having two radial plates and directs the material to be comminuted radially between the plates onto a coaxial impact track. The particles then pass to either side of the impact track and are propelled through annular sieve tracks arranged on each side of the impact track. The impact track and the sieve tracks can be stationary or arranged to rotate as an outer rotor.
Particles dispersed in a liquid are assembled in a configuration in which all the particles lie in the same plane, and the assembled particles are processed while in that configuration. The assembled particles can for example be simultaneously exposed to electromagnetic radiation which elicits from the particles a response which provides information about the particles. The particles can for example be cells, cell fragments, or analyte-bearing beads of the type conventionally analyzed in a cytom...
A composition comprising colloidal Fe.sub.3O.sub.4 particles coated with streptavidin is disclosed. These particles can be used in a method for separating biotinylated compounds from a solution in which the biotinylated compounds bind to the streptavidin-coated particles which are attracted to a surface by a magnet. Also disclosed is a method for making said streptavidin-coated composition, said method comprising the steps of forming colloidal Fe.sub.3O.sub.4 particles by mixing aqueous FeCl.sub...
A device for sorting particles. The device may include a channel structure that defines a channel having an inlet and first and second outlets. The device also may include first and second transport mechanisms. The first transport mechanism may be configured to create a particle stream of first particles and one or more second particles. Each particle may move along the channel from the inlet toward the first outlet and may be disposed in a fluid supported by the channel structure. The second tr...
Essentially spherical particles are disclosed of at least 98.5% alumina having a surface area less than about 1 m.sup.2 /g, an attrition resistance of less than about 0.3 weight percent/hour in an air jet attrition test, a particle size of about 30 to about 110 microns, a tap density of about 1.3 to about 1.9 g/cc, and sufficient porosity to hold catalytic metals in conventional catalytic amounts. The alumina particles are especially suited for use as fluid bed catalyst carriers for use in envir...
A reflective marker for highway striping, signs and other surfaces is produced from a multiplicity of thermoplastic or thermosetting granules in the shape of tetrahedrons. A plurality of glass spheres having a diameter in the range of from about 6.0 microns to about 0.125 inches are substantially evenly dispersed throughout each granule with some of the spheres protruding through the outer granule surfaces. To form the granules the glass spheres, the granule material and a suitable pigment are m...
