A method for preventing the adherence of oil to sucker rods or other surfaces in oil wells, by coating the surfaces contacting the oil with a film of a polymer that prevents or reduces oil adherence. Among materials effective in reducing oil adherence is an oleophobic film formed by complexing carboxymethylcellulose with salts of polyvalent metals such as aluminum, chromium and iron.
Disclosed is an improvement relating to adhesion of samples onto a surface for nucleic acid hybridization assay to detect a target polynucleotide. In one aspect, the invention provides a method of adhering a tissue, cell or other target polynucleotide-containing sample to a substrate under nucleic acid hybridization assay compatible conditions. In another aspect, the method comprises a hybridization assay procedure. Also disclosed are kits for performance of such procedures.
An ornamental heat transfer is described which is especially adapted for application to nylon fabrics. The ornamental heat activated transfer includes an upper layer which is generally a thermoset layer, cloth such as twill or flock which is bonded to a lower layer. The lower layer is an uncured linear saturated polyester film which includes a heat activatable isocyanate curing agent. Upon application of the transfer to nylon the transfer is heated which melts the uncured saturated polyester and...
Accordingly, this invention provides a fastener system which is weldable to a substructure that overcomes the problems and disadvantages of the fasteners of the prior art. Generally, a weldable fastener is disclosed that has a coating applied to at least one surface of the fastener. The coating functions to prevent the deposit of a further coating, particularly an electrodeposition coating, upon further processing.
A spectrally sensitized photothermographic silver halide element comprising a support layer having on at least one surface thereof a photothermographic composition, said composition comprising a polyvinyl acetal binder, a light insensitive silver source, a reducing agent for silver ion and infrared radiation sensitive silver halide grains, wherein said composition also comprises a polymeric component which is not a polyvinyl acetal, or a metal soap other than a silver soap of an organic acid (es...
An improved barrier or drug delivery system which is highly adherent to the surface to which it is applied is disclosed, along with methods for making the barrier. The barrier can be prepared by staining tissue with a photoinitiator, applying a solution containing a polymerizable barrier material solution and a photoinitiator to the tissue, and polymerizing the polymer solution on exposure to light. The resulting polymer adheres strongly to the tissue surface, and also forms a gel in the rest of...
The present invention is a solution and a method for its use in adhering nickel to a tin-oxide surface.
A device for testing the adherence of a coating to a material includes a cone section and roller for bending the material around the cone section. The bent piece has a sharp bend at one end and a gradual bend at the other end. The proximity to the sharp bend at which flaking of the coating from the substrate occurs is a measure of the adherence of the coating to the material.
An article, useful for detecting and assaying immune-adherence-reaction autinates, which article includes a component which (i) is a light-transparent base material coated with a dried film of diluted calf serum, (ii) has on top of said coating an antigen-containing overcoating, and (iii) is adapted to function in assembled arrangement in said article to provide a test cell of which a surface is said overcoating; and an assay method employing said article which method includes (a) contacting a l...
Methods for carrying the leucocyte adherence inhibition (LAI) assay for detecting the presence of cancer in responsive patients. One aspect of the invention utilizes incubation with agents which maximize the intracellular cycle 3',5'-adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels in the leucocytes as a means to expand the percentage of responding subjects in different cancers. A second aspect utilizes measurement of extracted, vital cell dye to avoid the need of counting the adhering or non-adhering leuc...
