An idle adjusting tool has a body adapted for mounting on a fuel-air mixer with a bore of the body opening into a fuel passage of the mixer. A spring biases a screwdriver blade, received in the bore, away from an idle adjusting screw of the mixer. Upon displacing the screwdriver blade against the force of the spring, it is possible to engage the idle adjusting screw. Gas pressure communication between the fuel passage and a pressure gauge connected to the tool exists through the bore.
A self-adjusting braking apparatus, particularly for rail-mounted vehicles, comprises two brakeshoes which are movable against opposite sides of a disk by two levers each of which has one end pivotally connected to a shoe. The other end of one of the levers is pivoted to the frame of the vehicle and the other end of the other lever is movable with reference to the other end of the one lever by a braking cylinder. A coupling device of infinitely variable length connects intermediate portions of t...
A track-type tractor comprising an endless track entrained about a drive sprocket and an idler has a self-contained adjuster and recoil mechanism operatively connected to the idler to maintain a preset tension on the endless track. The recoil portion of the mechanism comprises a compressible material contained in a housing which yieldably urges the idler wheel in a forward direction. The tension in the track may be easily adjusted through the admission of an incompressible fluid into a variable ...
An adjusting device for a communications receiver which comprises a plurality of potentiometers each having a plurality of resistance sections for different frequencies that can be moved over in succession by a movable wiper member. There is an actuator member for each potentiometer as well as a common frequency band changer device associated with a tuner in the receiver. The device is actuated by a linkage associated with said potentiometer between the movable wiper member, the actuator member ...
A method for optimizing the performance of an internal combustion engine carburetor to minimize the amounts of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in the engine exhaust gases while still providing for an efficiently operating engine is disclosed. The method involves adjusting the air-fuel mixture to the carburetor so as to minimize the amount of hydrocarbons in the engine exhaust gases.
Two half-ring segments of tubing of the Bourdon type are utilized to provide a self-adjusting seal ring between two stationary surfaces, as in the first stage nozzle of a turbine. The stationary parts may be so assembled that there is compressive force on the ring segments to form a seal between the stationary surfaces. The pressure drop across the rings also forms a sealing surface. In an alternate arrangement both ends of each ring segment are welded closed with a predetermined amount of vapor...
Seat for vehicle operator is mounted on an assembly which automatically moves seat vertically to a selected elevation corresponding to a setting on an elevation selector. Seat is automatically maintained at the selected elevation regardless of changes in the external load on the platform.
Self-adjusting band saw roller guide comprises a yoke having a pair of opposed legs with guide roller thereon. At least one of the rollers is carried by an eccentric sleeve bearing rotatably mounted on a leg of the yoke. A torque spring means mounted on the yoke engages the eccentric sleeve bearing and urges the roller to a predetermined position.
At a sawmill a device at the input side of the sawmill for adjusting automatically a log or a similar elongated object to be sawn relative to the center line or sawing line through the sawing unit so that a straight line through the centers of the end surfaces of the log becomes parallel to and coincident with the sawing line, if the log is straight, but parallel to and transversely offset from the sawing line, if the log is curved or bent, said transverse offset having a direction opposite to t...
An adjusting device for a ski-binding is used to adapt the binding to the different sizes of the ski-boots, for example to adjust a heel locking device, or a release plate or a pair of sole holding jaws. The device comprises two parts which are adjustable one relative to the other. One of these parts has one or two plug members which are guided in smooth bores of the other part. The plug members are provided with a threaded portion engaging a screwnut which is maintained against displacement lon...
