An optical beam-splitter having two triangular prisms cemented together to orm another prism roughly cubical in shape. Looking at the roughly square end formed by two triangular ends of the prisms, the latter are cemented together along their hypotenuse sides, one hypotenuse side having a 50% reflecting-50% transmitting coating. The rear and lower sides of the device have a coating which provides total internal reflectance. The lower side is inclined upwardly from the position in which it would ...
A construction member which includes an upper chord, a lower chord, a web interconnecting the upper and lower chords, and a plurality of link blocks positioned in stacked relation between the upper and lower chords. The link blocks are joined to each other, to the upper and lower chords, and also to the web. The upper and lower chords, the web and the link blocks may be formed of wood. Grooves may be formed in the upper and lower chords which receive the upper and lower edge portions of the web ...
An adjustable length shoring beam including an elongated center section, a first end section supported from and lengthwise adjustable and retractable relative to one end of the center section and a second end section supported from and lengthwise freely shiftable relative to the other end of the center section between maximum and minimum extended positions. Spring structure is provided for biasing the second end section toward its fully extended position and the opposite ends of the shoring beam...
A novel structural beam having energy absorbing and load characteristics admirably suited for protecting the passenger compartment of a vehicle during collision, for example, as a side guard beam. The beam construction comprises a blade-supporting matrix of novel composition and structure contained within a hollow sheet metal box beam.
A press or guillotine having a beam-type working head which is displaceable by hydraulic thrust means via at least one pair of toggle struts. At the end of a working stroke the included angle defined by the struts exceeds 150.degree.. One of the struts may form the working arm of a lever of the second order whose effort arm is connected to the thrust means. Matched pairs of sturts may be used, operable by matched thrust means.
A system, method, and apparatus for mitigating contamination associated with ion implantation are provided. An ion source, end station, and mass analyzer positioned between the ion source and the end station are provided, wherein an ion beam is formed from the ion source and selectively travels through the mass analyzer to the end station, based on a position of a beam stop assembly. The beam stop assembly selectively prevents the ion beam from entering and/or exiting the mass analyzer, therein ...
A construction beam includes solid strips of material forming inner and outer skins. Foam plastic material is disposed between the solid strips. Means are provided along the top and bottom of the strips to interlock one beam with a next adjacent beam to form a structure. Means for locking the strips to the foam plastic material may be provided.
A connector of a structural part such as a beam with another structural member is disclosed. The connection consists of a first plate which is fastened to the beam in a torsion free manner. The first plate includes a hook having a horizontal supporting area at the lower end and two vertical contact areas. A second plate is fastened to the other structural part and is in planar alignment with the first plate. The second plate includes fitting areas which mate with the supporting area and vertical...
An optical commutation system for commutating pulsed radiation between a common path of relatively high pulse rate and plural, closed spaced, slowly diverging paths on which the pulses are distributed. The system may thus act as a combiner or decombiner. The system employs a reflective or refractive optical element which is driven to produce a very slight oscillation in the orientation of the refractive or reflective surface of the element typically ranging over only a few degrees. The angle of ...
The warp beam is constructed with a hollow tube on which flanges can be symmetrically mounted as well as with a tubular extension at one end to permit asymmetric mounting in the bearings of a weaving machine. The warp beam is shaftless and the extension element has a slightly greater diameter than the diameter of the warp beam tube so as to render the warp beam more rigid. The rigidity of the warp beam reduces distortions and vibrations of the warp beam during weaving.
