An article is coated with a multi-layer coating having a bronze color. The coating comprises a nickel basecoat layer, and a color and protective stack layer comprised of layers of carbon-rich refractory metal or refractory metal alloy carbonitride alternating with layers of nitrogen-rich refractory metal or refractory metal alloy carbonitride.
An implant, usually a stent, has a coating of a cross-linked water swellable polymer matrix preferably having a dry thickness of at least 0.1 .mu.m, and a pharmaceutically active compound, the polymer having pendant cationic and pendant zwitterionic groups. The active is usually an anionic compound such as a nucleic acid. The polymer is peferably formed from 2-methacyloyloxyethyl-2'-trimethylammoniumethyl phosphate inner salt, trialkylammoniumalkyl(meth)acrylate and a cross-linkable monomer such...
An article is coated with a multi-layer coating having a bronze color. The coating comprises a polymeric basecoat layer, and a color and protective stack layer comprised of layers of carbon-rich refractory metal or refractory metal alloy carbonitride alternating with layers of nitrogen-rich refractory metal or refractory metal alloy carbonitride.
Novel coated abrasives comprising abrasive agglomerate grains characterized by a high porosity and low ratio of solid volume to nominal volume provide exceptionally useful medium to low pressure grinding characteristics.
An article comprising a metallic substrate and a mechanically deformable corrosion-protective coating thereon comprising a layer on the substrate of ductile bright nickel containing less than about 0.005 percent sulfur and about 0.2 to 2 mils thick, and a layer thereon of chromium at least about 0.01 mil thick and having cracks substantially uniformly distributed therein at an average spacing of not more than about 3 mils, the coating having been maintained at about 350.degree. to 450.degree.F f...
A water-soluble, thermoplastic compound especially suitable for hygienic and medical applications, such as for use as an insertion aid coating for tampons and as the matrix structure for suppositories. The compound is composed of a thermoplastic, film-forming water-soluble polymer and a compatible plasticizer for the polymer. The preferred polymer is hydroxypropyl cellulose. The preferred plasticizer is an olefinic glycol of predetermined molecular weight. One example of a preferred plasticizer ...
A foodstuff coated with batter and then with fresh root vegetables which are coated with a predusting flour provides a pre-fried frozen food product having coating particles which do not stick together and agglomerate and a fat content which is lower than pre-fried foodstuffs prepared with conventional breading materials.
A storage tank, the bottom of which has been coated with a layer formed by polymerizing a water-in-oil emulsion without breaking same.
A process which comprises mixing a carrier core with a polymer core and polymer shell and wherein the polymer shell is present as a coating on said core and said polymer core, wherein said polymer core is generated by emulsification of and heating of monomer forming a seed latex; adding a portion of said seed latex to said emulsification mixture, followed by heating and adding another second portion of said seed latex; and wherein said shell is generated by emulsion polymerization of a monomer, ...
Disclosed are silica-coated nanoparticles and a process for producing silica-coated nanoparticles. Silica-coated nanoparticles are prepared by precipitating nano-sized cores from reagents dissolved in the aqueous compartment of a water-in-oil microemulsion. A reactive silicate is added to coat the cores with silica. Also disclosed are methods for functionalizing silica-coated nanoparticles for use in a variety of applications.
