A data encoder which compacts the data necessary for recording the lines on a document by scanning a set of contiguous regions of equal area. The data compactor examines first a region group of two regions in one direction. A second comparator then examines three of these outputs for two regions in a second perpendicular direction and produces an output dependent upon their content. Storage means then record the output of the second comparator.
A multiplexed data system includes a multiplexing means sequentially connecting data points to a transmission line which is connected to an analog-to-digital converter. The data is transmitted by a current limit operational amplifier to establish a constant current line response between successive data points. A digitizing control includes a slope-detecting operational amplifier connected to differentiate the line voltage. An inverting pulse shaper and a noninverting pulse shaper are connected t...
An information recording device containing a body in the form of a thin plate having at least one and preferably three wheel wells rotatably receiving an alpha wheel, numeric wheel and a color coded wheel. The first two wheels are mounted in wheel wells formed in the top surface of the body and have portions extending past one of the side edges of the body positioned under windows in the top cover exposing a single letter or number. The third wheel is mounted in a wheel well formed in the bottom...
In a single chip microcomputer, functional blocks such as the central processing unit (CPU), the ROM for storing programs, the RAM for storing the data and the I/O circuit for the input and the output of the data and the like are formed on one semiconductor substrate. Address data is used for selecting predetermined areas of the functional blocks in the internal bus to which the address data must be supplied by the CPU. A buffer circuit is capable of being supplied with address data from the ext...
A data processor in accordance with the present invention can normally operate bit-string data while avoiding a breakage of the data even in the case where a read-out area of the bit string and a write-in area thereof are overlapped each other by providing an operation code of an instruction with an option designating the direction of bit processing.
A system for scanning transversely extending lines of data printed graphically on a document, the system comprising a transversely movable scanning head, means for moving a document longitudinally relative to the scanning head and control means including optical means for finding a line of data to be scanned and stopping such relative movement. The control means may also include switch means for stopping the drive means providing the relative longitudinal movement and a plurality of switch actua...
In a data processor for handling data comprising words of n-bits, a plurality of (n+m)-bit registers is provided for use as general purpose and address expansion registers, and effective addresss of (n+m)-bits are generated by adding addresses having n bits and provided in the instructions with the (n+m)-bit content of registers designated by the instructions. Thus, a data processor can be designed so as to have an expandable address bit length and flexible addressing with little additional hard...
A method and apparatus for coding signals representing a stream of digital data groups (for example run lengths) for transmission or storage, each group representing a numerical quantity, is described. The signals are supplied via input and modify registers (4,6) and an encode latch (11) to a set of encode PROMs (12). The PROMs (12) generate for each data group a code representing the group, the code comprising a terminator codeword and, where necessary, one or more make-up codewords. The codewo...
A data reader has a data reading means for reading data from a recording medium and producing an analog signal. The data reader also has a switching circuit having one terminal connected to the output terminal of the reading means. When the potential difference across the two terminals of the switching circuit falls within a predetermined range, the switching element is turned off. The switching element is turned on when the potential difference falls outside the predetermined range. The reader ...
A stream of source characters, which occur with varying relative frequencies, is encoded into a compressed stream of codewords, each having one, two or three subwords, by ranking the source characters by their current frequency of appearance, encoding the source characters having ranks no higher than a first number as one sub-word codewords, source characters having ranks higher than the first number but no higher than a second number as two sub-word codewords, and the remaining source character...
