To obviate eutrophication of water, non-phosphorus detergent builders are provided. These are the water-soluble salts (e.g., the trisodium salts) of taurine-N,N-diacetic acid, nitrilodiacetic acid-monomethylene sulfonic acid or mixtures thereof.
