Velocity in a subterranean interval is determined graphically from Root-Mean-Square (RMS) velocities at the end point of intervals by plotting time vs. velocity squared. A straight line can be drawn through the end points and the intersection of that straight line at T.sub.1 + T.sub.2 can be read directly as the velocity of the interval. Alternately, a special template can be used with conventional plotting of time vs. velocity.
This invention relates to a device for determining the orientation of a vehicle so that this information can be used to correlate automatic vehicle control equipment to signalling information being received by the vehicle. The device operates by determining the direction of power flow in a terminated conductor loop laid in the path of the vehicle by effectively obtaining the vector product of the magnetic and electric fields associated with the power flow.
A process for semiquantitative colorimetric detection of organic peroxides, especially ether peroxides, with the aid of peroxide indicating means comprising an absorbent carrier impregnated with peroxides, a colorimetric indicator, optionally a buffer, and optionally other additives. The indicating means is immersed in a solution of peroxides in a volatile organic solvent having a boiling point of below 80.degree. C., preferably of below 50.degree. C., and withdrawn. The indicating means is plac...
A weighing apparatus consists essentially of a three pan balance with the pans at different pre-set distances from a fulcrum. Preferably a second balance, an equal arm two pan balance is also provided. These balances enable a method of weight determination to be rapidly carried out to establish the maximum weight that can be marked on a given set of packs while satisfying statistically acceptable practice or legislation.
An electrochemical apparatus especially applicable for clinical use in determining glucose concentrations in solutions thereof comprising (1) a sample reservoir, (2) a glucose oxidase cell consisting essentially of a well closed at the bottom by a dialysis membrane and containing an anode, glucose oxidase and a buffer solution, (3) a reference cell consisting essentially of a well closed at the bottom by a dialysis membrane and containing an anode and buffer solution, (4) a cathode, (5) means fo...
A pair of electrodes formed of dissimilar metals are placed in an uncured resin. As the resin cures, the material produces a dc potential up to several hundred millivolts. The potential can be plotted with time of cure as an indication of the relative rate of chemical activity occurring during the curing period.
A sample solution containing hypophosphite and phosphite ions is acidified a sufficient amount to convert most of the phosphite ions to an unreactive form. A solution of ferric ions is combined with the sample and the mixture heated to oxidize the hypophosphite while reducing the ferric to ferrous ions. A complexing agent and a pH buffer are included in the mixture to produce a red colored ferrous complex from which the original concentration of the hypophosphite ion is photometrically determine...
Stable, water-soluble, substantially pure organic salts of cholesteryl hemisuccinate selected from the group consisting of the morpholine salt, the cyclohexylamine salt and the tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane salt and methods for their use. The claimed water-soluble cholesterol salts are useful as standards for the determination of cholesterol in biological fluids.
The disclosure describes a digital acoustic direction determination system comprising a plurality of transducers each capable of producing electrical signals in response to an acoustic wave. Selection logic circuitry determines the octant or 45 degree arc segment from which the sound originates and transmits an octant digital number representing the octant to an adder. As soon as the wave strikes one of the transducers, a clock generator begins to step a shift register which has stored in it a p...
Uric acid is determined by contacting a sample suspected of containing uric acid with a phosphate buffer, an NADH solution, ethanol, alcohol dehydrogenase and catalase in the presence of air to form a reaction mixture containing 0.3 to 0.7 volume percent alcohol, measuring a first extinction value, adding uricase to the reaction mixture, measuring a second extinction value spectrophotometrically and taking the difference between the extinction values as a measure of the initial uric acid content...
