A surface-effect aerofoil boat having two aerofoils arranged in tandem and having a gap for a propulsion or air screw between a vertical fin and an aerodynamic rudder and wherein the aerofoils are designed as hollow bodies subdivided into compartments some of which being provided with flooding and emptying devices. The rear aerofoil seen in the direction of travel is clipped with respect to the geometry of its trailing edge in a polygonal or rounded-off manner. The gap in the plane of rotation o...
A junction field effect transistor having a "V" shaped upper gate, dividing said planar source and drain regions, formed by etching a (100) crystal oriented semiconductor material of one conductivity type and diffusing with material of opposite conductivity type.
Distillation apparatus having a plurality of substantially identical effects arranged in a side-by-side relation. Each effect includes means for distributing feed liquid as a thin film over the outer surfaces of tubes of a horizontally oriented heat exchange tube bundle for condensing a portion of vapor disposed therein. A portion of the feed liquid evaporates and is provided as the vapor to the heat exchange tubes of the next succeeding effect and the unevaporated feed liquid in each effect is ...
An air bag inflation system for use in vehicles for protecting the occupants thereof against injury in the event of a collision. The system utilizes ambient air for inflating the air bag with the ambient air being drawn into the air bag by one or more air movers which induce secondary fluid flow by directing the flow of a primary fluid through a Coanda nozzle.
A device for enhancing video reception from a silicon target vidicon by rction of smeared images. Conventional television scanning parameters are used to display images of the scene being viewed. Light rays from the scene are impinged upon a silicon target of photodiodes within the vidicon. A circuit is provided for grounding the target electrode between successive vertical scans of the electron beam thus reducing the time during which smearing of the image occurs.
In order to substantially increase the power output of Compton effect lasers, the invention provides for the electron beam to be located inside the cavity containing the photon radiation with which it is to interact. In the Figure, the reference 40 illustrates the cavity and the surface covered with dots, the electron beam; 30 is the accelerator device. The direction of the horizontal arrow is that taken by the emergent photon radiation.
A galvano-magneto effect device comprised of a semiconductor element and lead frames, the element being provided with electrodes which are coated with a thermally fusible conductive material and are formed at the terminal sections of the element and the conductive lead frames being made by reducing the thickness of the end portions which are to be coupled to the electrodes and coating them with a thermally fusible conductive material.
A multi-effect flash evaporator is provided wherein preheated seawater is passed into a header extending at least partially across a vessel or compartment into which the preheated feed water is to be discharged for flashing. The header has a plurality of restricted discharge means such as orifices, pipe nipples, and the like, distributed along its length for discharge of the preheated seawater upwardly. A flash chamber is disposed along and generally above the discharge means and has downwardly ...
A winged surface effect vehicle has two parallel wings spaced apart in the direction of flight, and of which the front wing has a strongly curved underside to act as air scoop, whose effectiveness depends significantly on height, with maximum effectiveness very close to ground; the rear wing has straight underside and produces lift by aerodynamics with little dependency on height.
Apparatus and method that employs Zeeman reference and absorption components in a spectrometer for rapidly and accurately detecting the presence of trace amounts of a specific biologically dangerous metal element, such as Hg, that contaminates a host substance, such as food. In one embodiment for detecting Hg in fish, the method comprises heating a sample of fish containing mercury to form a vapor, transmitting a focused light spectra from a specific mercury isotope light source in a magnetic fi...
