An energy absorber comprises a helically coiled stores of at least partially yielding material that is drawn over a roller, or two rollers on perpendicular rotational axes, and securely fixed to a base that is attached to fragile structure such as a roof so that when an external force of sufficient size is applied to the roller or rollers through a connecting attachment eye the coil together with roller or rollers moves away from the attachment to the base whilst the coiled material is deployed ...
An energy absorber comprises a housing (1), a store (15) of plastically deformable material (8) mounted in the housing and having an endstop (27), an attachment (3) for attaching the energy absorber to a structure, another attachment (10) for attaching the plastically deformable material (8) to a structure, and the housing mounting a pair of spaced pins (5, 6) around which the deformable material (8) from a coil is plastically deformed in different directions in a sequential manner to absorb ene...
An apparatus for imparting mechanical vibration on a down-hole drilling system including a body, first and second couplers and a rotating member. The body includes ports configured to pass fluid through the body, and the first and second couplers are configured to couple the body to the down-hole drilling system. The rotating member is located at least partially in the body and is rotatable about an axis of rotation in response to flow of the fluid such that rotation of the rotating member gener...
The system of an energy conditioner comprising: a conductive shield structure comprising a first conductive shield layer, a second conductive shield layer, and a third conductive shield layer; wherein said first conductive shield layer is above said second conductive shield layer, and said second conductive shield layer is above said third conductive shield layer; wherein said first conductive shield layer, said second conductive shield layer, and said third conductive shield layer are conductiv...
An energy absorber for vehicle bumpers and the like comprising a pair of telescopic tubular housings, attachment means for securing one of the housings to the vehicle frame and the other of the housings to the vehicle bumper, a piston located in one of the housings movable longitudinal thereof in response to a preselected impact force being applied to the energy absorber, a pressurizable chamber located in one of the housing members and valve means interposed between the chamber and the piston f...
An electric cell having a hermetic pressure seal, and subject to development of high internal gas pressure in the normal operating region, and provided with an auxiliary venting region at atmospheric pressure separated from the operating region with a frangible disc in a separating wall between operating and venting regions with cotton flock in the venting region to retard any high pressure gas and electrolyte injected after fracture of the disc by high pressure in operating region.
A heating and cooling system utilizing solar radiation as an energy source and a fluid body as a storage medium, the fluid body being distributed over the roof area of a dwelling or other structure with provision for controlling the absorption, storage and delivery of thermal energy to regulate the temperature in the enclosed areas of the structure.
The invention relates to a novel energy accumulator for a load step switch for rapid, continuous switching between various winding tappings. Said energy accumulator comprises a lifting carriage and a jumping carriage, which follow the movement of the jumping carriage in a jumping manner. Both of the carriages are guided along three parallel guiding rods. The lifting carriage and the jumping carriage comprise, respectively, three linear roller bearings which respectively surround one of the three...
An energy attenuator for use with tensile or compressive loads is disclosed. The attenuator has two housings slidably fitted within one another. Relative motion of the two housings is opposed by a wire bending mechanism comprising a stiff wire and a trolley which bends the wire as it moves along the wire. The force required to move the housings is determined by the mechanical properties and size of the wire used and the orientation of the bearing surfaces of the trolley.
An energy absorber which comprises in cross-section at least one limb of rubber-plastic composite material comprising a layer of rubber and a layer of plastics, said layers being united together and each extending substantially in the direction of the length of the limb, and the layer of plastics material being capable of absorbing more energy than the layer of rubber during deformation of the limb by bending or buckling.
