A novel heteropolysaccharide produced by strains of Enterobacter sakazakii, such as Enterobacter sakazakii ATCC 53017, Enterobacter sakazakii ATCC 29004, and Enterobacter sakazakii ATCC 12868, is disclosed. The heteropolysaccharide comprises from about 13 to about 22 percent by weight of L-fucose, from about 19 to about 24 percent by weight of D-galactose, from about 23 to about 30 percent by weight of D-glucose, from about 0 to about 8 percent by weight of D-mannose, from about 29 to about 32 p...
A broth medium for the detection of Klebsiella, specifically Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterobacter in urine. The medium employs 3-(.alpha.-acetonylbenzyl)-4-hydroxycoumarin and 2,4 dinitro-phenyl hydrazone of .alpha.-Ketoglutoric acid to inhibit growth of Escherichia Coli organisms and to promote growth of Klebsiella. This medium also has a pH of about 8.0 to inhibit other organisms which grow under more neutral conditions.
7-Mandelamido or 7-aminophenylacetamido cephalosporins bearing a 3-heterocyclicthiomethyl substituent are effective in combating Enterobacter infections. Five-membered heterocyclic rings having at least two hetero atoms are preferred.
The present invention is generally related to products and methods permitting the identification of Enterobacter species organisms. In addition, the invention provides the capability to differentiate Enterobacter infections from other acute bacterial infections.
A method for preparing probes, as well as several probes for use in qualitative or quantitative hybridization assays are disclosed. The method comprises constructing an oligonucleotide that is sufficiently complementary to hybridize to a region of rRNA selected to be unique to a non-viral organism or group of non-viral organisms sought to be detected, said region of rRNA being selected by comparing one or more variable region rRNA sequences of said non-viral organism or group of non-viral organi...
A method for screening a bacterium antagonistic to pathogenic bacteria that emerge during raising of seedlings of gramineous plants utilizing tropolone resistance and tropolone non-producing property as indices, and a microbial pesticide containing as an active ingredient the bacterium that has tropolone resistance and tropolone non-producing property selected by the screening method or spores thereof.
DNA probes for diagnosing infectious diseases involving Escherichia coli, Klebsielkli pneunmoniae or Enterobacter cloacae and methods of using such probes are provided.
The sensitivity of Klebsiella and Enterobacter organisms to preselected antibiotics is determined with a medium consisting essentially of a nutrient source for Klebsiella and Enterobacter organisms, about 0.01 to about 0.03 g/l 2,4 dinitro phenyl hydrazone of .alpha.-Ketoglutaric acid, about 3.5 to about 6 g/l sodium desoxycholate and the preselected antibiotic.
The invention provides isolated polypeptide and nucleic acid sequences derived from Enterobacter cloacae that are useful in diagnosis and therapy of pathological conditions; antibodies against the polypeptides; and methods for the production of the polypeptides. The invention also provides methods for the detection, prevention and treatment of pathological conditions resulting from bacterial infection.
A microorganism belonging to the genus Enterobacter and having a plant growth acceleratory activity, particularly Enterobacter cloacae, and a method for cultivating crops using the microorganism or polysaccharides produced therefrom are disclosed.
