A compensated vehicle heading system wherein magnetic heading information is combined with heading information determined by sensing vehicle dynamic movement to provide augmented heading information is disclosed. The magnetic heading information is provided by a magnetic heading sensor. The heading information determined by sensing vehicle dynamic movement is provided by a vehicle dynamic system that senses vehicle direction changes. In one form, the vehicle dynamic system includes magnetic sens...
The automatic heading retention mode of operation of an automatic flight control system for a rotary wing aircraft is discontinued and reestablished through the use of a logic circuitry responsive to the yaw rate, bank angle and airspeed of the aircraft and to the force applied to the cyclic pitch control member by the pilot. The logic circuitry provides for the isolation of information commensurate with left and right turns and summation of the yaw rate and bank angle in each direction to deter...
A cold or hot-forging heading die used in metalworking to form a "head" on the end of a metal rod is configured to provide two heading cavities formed in opposite ends of the carbide insert. The heading die of the invention comprises a hardened steel ring with a cylindrical carbide insert having a through bore with a first cavity machined concentrically with the bore in one end of the carbide insert. The die is then inverted and a second cavity formed in the opposite end of the insert. The secon...
A method and device for positioning a fish is presented. In an exemplary method, a fish is positioned in relation to a cutting plane. Pressure is applied to a rising area of the fish's head via a pressure part such that the fish is displaced in the direction of the fish's body, thereby positioning the fish for heading. Thereafter, the fish is headed. In another embodiment, an exemplary device for positioning a fish in a heading machine comprises a pressure part having a pressure surface configur...
A heading-sensing arrangement employs spaced transmitting and receiving transducers and signal-processing apparatus for determining the relative heading between two vessels displaced in three dimensions. The desired heading is computed by normalizing measured angles between the vessels to account for elevation variations.
A vented heading for the outer frame of an airtight double-hung sash window unit adapted to be seated in an opening of an exterior wall of an apartment. Vent holes in a head panel allow fresh air flow into the heading; and a baffle member at the back of the heading serves to direct the airflow downwardly at the rear of the unit into the apartment. Stale air from the apartment is enabled to move past the baffle member and escape through the heading and vent holes to the outside.
A heading trim reference system provides beep commands indicative of a desired heading/attitude change to the roll channel of an AFCS as roll commands at slow speed in a conventional manner, and to the yaw channel as yaw commands at cruise speed. At cruise speed, the yaw synchronizing integrator responds to the beep commands and provides an error signal to existing turn coordination logic to turn the aircraft.
A process for heading of a blank (30) formed from a length of wire stock to form a brush contact (10) having a different diameter ends, (12,14) and an intermediate shoulder (16) with a relatively great reduction in the length of the blank (30) occurring during successive heading steps, including clamping the blank in one of a plurality of holders (166), each having a counter bore (46) opening onto an end face against which a respective one of a series of coning dies (32,50,56,64) are brought int...
A heading indicator is disclosed which utilizes a one degree of freedom platform stabilized by a two degree of freedom dry flexure gyro. The output of one of the sensitive axis is coupled through an amplifier to the corresponding torquer in the gyro and selectively through an another amplifier to the opposite torquer. The other sensitive axis output is coupled through an amplifier to the platform. The indicator initializes at true north and is then switched to a directional gyro mode.
A method is disclosed for determining the heading of an aircraft which is equipped with both an inertial navigation system and a device capable of receiving navigation satellite signals and computing the aircraft's position, speed and acceleration therefrom. While the aircraft is still on the ground and before flight operations begin, an initial alignment of the inertial navigation system with an earth-fixed coordinate system is performed, and during this alignment, data corresponding to the ini...
