A method for identifying anti-convulsant compounds is presented. The binding of test compounds with a receptor obtained from rat forebrain is determined. The receptor has a Kd of about 40 nM and a molecular weight of about 130 kD. Two pyran compounds that bind to the receptor are also disclosed.
The present invention relates to assays which can be used to identify inducers of plant resistance to pathogens. The assays use catalase and/or ascorbate peroxidase.
In a cable having the wires of one end prewired and the wires of the other end ready to be connected to another component, the system disclosed allows an operator to select any wire in the cable without prior marking. The system identifies the wire by clocking a counter until the circuit completed by the wire disables the counter. A readout interrogates the counter and identifies the placement of the wire to the operator. Each wire is tested for correct placement by comparison to a reference lin...
A printing device to identify wound yarn packages being automatically doffed from a winder. The device has a stamp with a marking end to be inked by an ink pad and is spring-loaded to strike and retract from a package for marking. A triangular shaped cam slot is used for cocking and releasing the stamp responsive to pressure contact of the device with a yarn package.
Method and compositions are provided for the determination of telomere length and telomerase activity, as well as the ability to inhibit telomerase activity in the treatment of proliferative diseases. Particularly, primers are elongated under conditions which minimize interference from other genomic sequences, so as to obtain accurate determinations of telomeric length or telomerase activity. In addition, compositions are provided for intracellular inhibition of telomerase activity and means are...
A method and an apparatus for identifying cleaner retraction timing faults in an electrostatographic printer. A toner image or patch is developed on the photoreceptor during the non-printing mode of the printer. After cleaning by a retractable cleaner, the portion of the image or patch not cleaned is measured and compared to a predetermined length in order to determine cleaner retracting timing faults in the cleaner subsystem.
An assay for the detection of substances agonistic or antagonistic to the mevalonate pathway are disclosed.
This invention provides purified telomerase and methods of purifying it. The methods involve the use of several sequential steps, including the use of matrices that bind molecules bearing negative charges, matrices that bind molecules bearing positive charges, intermediate-selectivity matrices, methods that separate molecules based on their size, shape, or buoyant density, and by affinity purification.
The present invention relates to the discovery, identification and characterization of nucleotides that encode Ob receptor (ObR), a receptor protein that participates in mammalian body weight regulation. The invention encompasses obR nucleotides, host cell expression systems, ObR proteins, fusion proteins, polypeptides and peptides, antibodies to the receptor, transgenic animals that express an obR transgene, or recombinant knock-out animals that do not express the ObR, antagonists and agonists ...
Flows in data streams are identified according to a simple but flexible device whereby searching for a flow identification is done according to a standard routine that can be accomplished with customized circuitry. Flexibility is achieved by allowing parameters of the search routine to be specified in memory which can be programmably altered. Speed and flexibility are thereby both achieved.
