A clarinet or the like ligature is provided with a slidably adjustable pressure bar. The outer end of the pressure bar is turned under and exerts pressure against the reed along the longitudinal center line. The pressure point is adjustable from beneath the rim of the ligature to some distance down the reed, thereby affording individual control of the vibrational qualities of the reed, and hence of the tone characteristics.
The reflectors in a laser are mounted in precise axial alignment by means of an elongated mounting structure made of a material of low thermal coefficient of expansion which serves to prevent reflector misalignment due to temperature changes in the laser, the elongated mounting structure also including an associated member made of a material of high thermal conductivity which serves to direct heat away from the elongated mounting structure along the length, further reducing any temperature effec...
This is an electrophotographic process comprising the step of contacting a latent electrostatic image with a developer comprising carrier and toner. The carrier is a core coated with a continuous film of a fluoropolymer and a modifying resin. This carrier has a positive triboelectric charge with respect to the toner. This positive charge is obtained by curing the coated carrier at a temperature less than 700.degree.F.
A polypivalolactone composition is produced by mixing a polypivalolactone with one or more indole derivatives having a boiling point not less than 260.degree.C. The composition has an improved stability against disintegration or decomposition of the polymer molecules at elevated temperatures.
A catoptric lens arrangement which is adapted to use with high power radiant energy, as from a laser, is shown. The entrance mirror of the contemplated lens arrangement has a convex reflective surface so that the radiative flux density at the entrance mirror is less than the radiative flux density in a laser beam. The various mirrors in the contemplated lens arrangement further are arranged so that each such mirror may be conductively cooled with aperture blockage reduced to a minimum or elimina...
An Anger-type scintillation camera system fitted with a gamma ray filter between the object under study and the detector and an output signal filter of the signal funneling type which employs a non-linear array of signal filter windows to compensate for inherent non-linear spatial response characteristics in the camera system.
In a process for the production of an electret composed of a high molecular weight base material by applying to the base material a high D. C. potential at a high temperature, cooling the material while continuing the application of the potential, and then removing the electric potential, the improvement which comprises covering the opposite surfaces of the base material before polarizing the base material with thin films of a different high molecular weight material having a higher electrical i...
The disclosure is of a transportation system which includes an elongated guidebeam having three spaced apart running surfaces. Two of the running surfaces as substantially vertical to accommodate wheels rotating about vertical axles and the third running surface is substantially horizontal to accomodate wheels rotating on horizontal axles. Wheels which rotate on a normally vertical axle and wheels which rotate on a normally horizontal axle are connected to a rack which is adapted to move along t...
In a cryogenic connection wherein tubular conductors insulated by a vacuum and carrying a cryogenic fluid, provides a fluid connection between the vacuum surrounding the current conducting tubular conductors with the annular cavity also subjected to vacuum pressure between inner and outer enclosures providing thermal insulation to the cryogenic connection. The coupling of connection elements is effected in a sequential conductor laying process, utilizing rectilinear sections of 20-metre enclosur...
A scintillation camera with a multichannel collimator and an optical or electronic demodulator operating on the spatial coordinate output of the camera to produce a mirror image reversal of outputs associated with radiation quanta traversing individual channels of said collimator, the mirror image reversal being produced with respect to a central axis of each collimator channel.
