A gas laser. The active gas is placed in a slot provided in one of the two metal plates in a flat electric line. This line is charged and a rapid discharge is then produced on one side of the slot to produce a wave of current which excites the gas as it crosses the slot. Small metal plates are stacked between the two plates on the other side of the slot, one out of every two being connected to one plate and the other one to the other plate, thereby increasing the excitation current.
A laser system wherein reaction products from the detonation of a condensed explosive expand to form a gaseous medium with low translational temperature but high vibration population. Thermal pumping of the upper laser level and de-excitation of the lower laser level occur during the expansion, resulting in a population inversion. The expansion may be free or through a nozzle as in a gas-dynamic configuration. In one preferred embodiment, the explosive is such that its reaction products are CO.s...
In laser spectroscopy, a sample medium to be analyzed, such as a gas, is interposed in a laser beam and the absorbance of energy by the sample from the laser beam is detected. In addition, the laser beam intensity is detected. A tuner is provided for tuning the wavelength of the laser beam over a plurality of discrete wavelengths to derive an absorbance spectrum of the sample under analysis. The dwell time for each of the various wavelengths of the laser beam is controlled so as to obtain equal ...
To prevent deleterious effects from the sputtering of the cathode of a laser, the cathode surface portions exposed to the gaseous filling within the laser envelope are coated with a vaporizable metal. The coated cathode surface portions are held during laser operation at a temperature within a small range of values including the vaporization temperature of the metal coating the cathode surface. The atoms of the coating metal are sputtered off of the cathode surface by ion bombardment during oper...
There is disclosed a tubular gaseous laser device comprising a laser capillary tube with anode and laser end pieces, a cathode, a cathode envelope, a gas exhaust stem for filling the device with a laseable gas. These components are fabricated into three sub-assemblies which are separately tested before the final overall assembly of the device.
A laser gyroscope is disclosed wherein a polarization dispersive structure, disposed in the path of the laser beam, includes an anisotropic crystal as a half-wave retarder. The crystallographic axes of such crystal are oriented with respect to the plane of the path to produce different delays to oppositely polarized waves passing through the crystal structure.
A device producing reactions in the chemical to thermonuclear range and beyond. Physical principles entail pressures, kinetic temperatures, and electromagnetic field strengths obtainable from convergent electromagnetic energy. Process converges closed electromagnetic wave on reactants thereby heating, compressing and confining, and stressing reactants under focal electromagnetic intensities, inducing therein endothermic, equithermic, exothermic or combinations thereof reactions, all types furnis...
Apparatus for producing stimulated emission of radiation from a lasting medium comprising fluorescent organic dye molecules in solution. Lasing emission is achieved by directing the output of a diode laser along the transverse axis of a hollow optical resonator filled with a laser dye dissolved in a solvent. Using a commercially available pulsed GaAlAs diode laser and an infrared-absorbing and emitting cyanine dye in solution, laser wavelengths from 950 to 1,005 nanometers are obtained by changi...
A laser tube for a laser generator used in a laser machining tool is formed by a plurality of disks laminated together to form an integral unit. The disks have a main hole for the passage of laser gas and at least one sub-hole for a sub-flow of laser gas. The sub-hole of each disk is connected with the respective main hole of the disk by a gas injection channel through which laser gas is injected into the main hole at a plurality of longitudinal positions in the laser tube to provide a homogeneo...
A laser having, a resonator structure including a wavelength variable laser crystal containing a fluoride and an optical part for controlling the wavelength of radiation from the laser crystal, a device to excite the laser crystal, a device for detect reflected light from the optical part as a sample beam, and a device to stabilize the output of a laser beam from the resonator structure based on the sample beam.
