A process and a device for reducing the nitrous oxide which is formed during the catalytic combustion of ammonia and oxygen to form nitrogen oxides. A catalyst system including at least one first catalyst mesh element and at least one second catalyst mesh element is used for the catalytic combustion of ammonia and oxygen to form nitrogen oxides, where the minimum of one first catalyst mesh element is a platinum-rhodium mesh and the minimum of one second, downstream catalyst mesh element is a pal...
This invention relates to methods of producing catalysts comprising zirconia and their use in nitrous oxide abatement. The catalysts have relatively high crush strength and relatively low density when compared to those catalysts made by previously known methods.
A geometrically optimized precombustion chamber 12 for a diesel or stratified charge engine is provided which limits the maximum gas temperature through transonic and/or supersonic flow to prevent the production of nitrous oxides and is defined in accordance with the following equation: ##EQU1##
A nozzle for mixing and delivering two or more components and method of use thereof. One variation provides a nozzle that injects a first component, such as fuel, into a flow plume for a second component, such as nitrous oxide, for use with combustion engines. The nozzle receives two or more separate flows of components (e.g., gases and/or liquids), one of which is pressurized so as to be outputtable from the nozzle as a plume. The plume is directed so as to encompass an output extension for the...
Provided are a system and method for nitrous oxide purification, wherein the nitrous oxide product for use in semiconductor manufacturing. The system and process involve a first sub-system having a purification tank for holding a liquefied nitrous oxide, therein; a vaporizer in communication with the purification tank to receive, vaporize and convey a nitrous oxide vapor back to the purification tank; a distillation column disposed on a distal end of the purification tank to receive a nitrous ox...

A fuel supply module located between the carburetor and intake manifold is disclosed for spraying fuel and nitrous oxide. The module has two pairs of adjacent conduits that are perpendicular to each other and span the intake passage. One conduit in each pair has nozzles for spraying fuel and the other conduit has nozzles for spraying nitrous oxide. The conduit for spraying fuel being downstream of the conduit for spraying nitrous oxide.
The present invention relates to a nitrous oxide injection device and system, and a method of installation of the device and system, and, in particular, to a self-contained, easy to install nitrous oxide device that provides fuel delivery that varies with nitrous oxide tank pressure by way of a manifold that is pressurized by a bleed orifice from the nitrous oxide source. The pressure from the manifold is transferred by a connection to the fuel pressure regulator of the vehicle, so that fuel del...
A feedstream comprising nitrous oxide is purified by a pressure swing adsorption process employing a copurge with an oxygen-lean stream to produce a high purity nitrous oxide stream. The high purity nitrous oxide stream can be incorporated in a complex for the production of adipic acid to recover nitrous oxide from a dilute waste stream and pass the recovered nitrous oxide to a process for the production of phenol from an aromatic hydrocarbon. Unreacted nitrous oxide from the phenol production s...
A process and apparatus is presented for the reduction of nitrous oxide in the effluent from the combustion of a carbonaceous fuel. The process comprises raising the temperature of the effluent to a temperature of at least about 1700.degree. F. The apparatus utilized is a heating means which is disposed in a boiler at a location where the effluent is at a temperature of less than about 1700.degree. F.
