The invention relates to an information disc having a laminated structure which can be read optically. The information disc comprises a transparent substrate which is preferably manufactured from a synthetic resin, for example plexiglass, having thereon a radiation-cured lacquer layer in which the information track is present. The lacquer layer used comprises a radiation-cross linkable protic compound which after curing is aprotic. The lacquer layer preferably comprises a polythiol compound as w...
In a guiding structure having a corrugation, depth of the corrugation is changed in the axial direction to change the effective refractive index by a considerable amount. The use of a 2nd-order or higher-order corrugation is desirable to ensure precise processing. It is also desirable that changes in depth is continuous. In a DFB laser using this structure, effective phase shifting and optical confinement factor can be controlled by changing the depth of the corrugation. In a DFB laser/modulator...
An optically controlled micro-electromechanical (MEM) switch is described which desirably utilizes photoconductive properties of a semiconductive substrate upon which MEM switches are fabricated. In one embodiment the bias voltage provided for actuation of the switch is altered by illuminating an optoelectric portion of the switch to deactivate the switch. In an alternative embodiment, a photovoltaic device provides voltage to actuate the switch without any bias lines at all. Due to the hysteres...
The object to be identified is affixed with an identification medium comprising a reflective layer consisting of a reflective hologram or diffraction grating. The high polymer cholesteric liquid crystal provides an inexpensive identification medium, and the use of the second light receiving unit for providing a reference signal provides a high S/N output signal which is highly distinct and resistant to the contamination of the identification medium. Also, the elimination of the need for expensiv...
Compositions are disclosed utilizing the optically pure (-) isomer of norcisapride. This compound is a potent drug for the treatment of gastro-esophageal reflux disease, emesis, dyspepsia and other conditions while substantially reducing the concomitant liability of adverse effects associated with cisapride. The (-) isomer of norcisapride also avoids the adverse drug interactions associated with racemic cisapride and other therapeutic agents.
The nonlinear optically active copolymers according to the invention are polyadducts of at least one organic di- or polycyanate and a nonlinear optically active compound, i.e. a chromophore. These copolymers have outstanding thermal stability and are suitable for the fabrication of technically useful electro-optical and photonic components with long-term stability.
Compositons employing and methods utilizing the optically pure (+) isomer of norcisapride are disclosed. This compound has surprisingly been found to be a potent drug for the treatment of disorders of the central nervous system. The compound, (+) norcisapride, has also been found to be a potent antiemetic agent. Finally the (+) isomer of norcisapride also avoids certain adverse side effects and certain adverse drug interactions.
A simplified method for the optical brightening of paper either in the pulp mass, the size or metering press or by coating by the use of a formulation of an optical brightening agent together with a swellable layered silicate.
Stable aqueous compositions of biologically active oils for the preparation of optically clear products for use in human or animal healthcare, for example beverages, are prepared.
Process for producing an optically active ester by reaction of a racemic alcohol with an optically active amino or tartaric acid derivative, a process for producing an optically active alcohol by hydrolysis of the optically active ester, a process for converting an alcohol into a ketone by oxidation, a method for stably storing an optically active ketone, and a new optically active amino acid ester and a new optically active tartaric acid ester.
