Metal oxide superconductors of the yttrium-barium-copper type (YBa.sub.2 Cu.sub.3 O.sub.4 type) can be formed by precipitation from an aqueous solution of the salts of the metals using an oxalate precipitation reagent under basic pH conditions (e.g., at least 11) to form a fireable precursor only partly in the form of the oxalate salts of these metals.
A new and improved method for inhibiting the precipitation of sodium oxalate crystals in a Bayer process liquor is provided. In an embodiment, the method comprises the step of adding to the Bayer process liquor, after red mud separation, a minor effective amount of a liquor oxalate stabilizer selected from hydrocarbon-substituted amine oxide compounds and/or hydrocarbon-substituted betaine compounds.
Process of sodium oxalate purification of sodium aluminate solutions resulting from alkaline attack of bauxites according to the Bayer process, comprising: precipitation of said sodium oxalate in at least a fraction of the pre-decomposed sodium aluminate solution, by means of an agent that destabilizes the supersaturation state of the sodium oxalate, or deoxalation initiator, separation of the oxalate, precipitated with the destabilizing agent in the form of an insoluble residue, and the purifie...
A single medicine oxalic acid or oxalate composition or "magic bullet" and method of treatment or prevention of warm-blooded animals including humans and pets for infectious or pathogenic microbial, bacterial, or viral disease, chemopreventiong of bacterial or viral infections, and the like, is provided which includes at least one therapeutically effective form of oxalic acid or oxalate selected from oxalic acid in a free acid, ester, lactone or salt form and oxalate including sodium oxalate, ox...
Disclosed is a method for the preparation of particles of a rare earth ammonium double oxalate by mixing a first aqueous solution of ammonium oxalate and a second aqueous solution of a water-soluble rare earth salt. The double oxalate particles have a polyhedral particle configuration with a uniform particle size distribution, from which a rare earth oxide powder of a polyhedral particle configuration with good flowability can be obtained by calcination, when the first and second aqueous solutio...
This invention provides materials and procedures for the delivery of selected strains of bacteria and/or oxalate-degrading enzymes to the intestinal tracts of persons who are at increased risk for oxalate related disease because they have lost, or have inadequate concentrations of these bacteria. The administration of these bacteria and/or the relevant enzyme removes oxalate from the intestinal tract and thus reduces the amount of oxalate available for absorption and reduces the risk for oxalate...
There is disclosed a porous non-woven absorbent structure formed from fibers. The porous structure has a basis weight within the range of at least about 0.25 osy to about 10.0 osy a density of at least about 0.01 g/cc to about 0.15 g/cc. The porous structure is adapted such that upon the application of at least 2 ml of fluid Bovine blood-oxalate to a surface thereof, substantially all of said fluid enters the bulk of the porous structure within about 45 seconds. The porous structure may be singl...
A method is disclosed for recovering oxalate from oxalate containing solutions containing complexes of iron and chromium. The method involves adjusting the pH of the solution to from about 1 to 2, adding calcium chloride in an amount equal to at least about 3 moles per mole of iron, and digesting the resulting calcium chloride treated solution at at least about 50.degree. C. for a sufficient time to form a solid consisting esssentially of calcium oxalate, followed by separating the solid from th...
An extract for the treatment of calcium oxalate kidney stone disease which can be extracted and purified from leaves of the plant Eriobotrya japonica is disclosed. The extract has the following characteristics: inhibits calcium oxalate crystal growth in vitro, inhibits renal calcium oxalate crystal deposition in rats which are fed ethylene glycol, causes rats which are fed ethylene glycol and said extract to excrete less oxalate in their urine as compared to rats which are fed ethylene glycol wi...
The present invention relates to a method of transforming plutonium oxalate into plutonium oxide by drying and then calcining. In said method, in a characteristic manner, the operations of drying and calcining are implemented continuously, in the presence of oxygen and with gas extraction, in two adjacent zones of a single apparatus, e.g. of the screw oven type, that is maintained at negative pressure. The present invention also provides apparatus suitable for implementing said method.
