A unified laminate of layers of polymer is disclosed, the laminate consisting of a layer of microporous substrate and an ultrathin layer of polyphenylene oxide (PPO) with an ultrathin layer of organopolysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer disposed therebetween. The organopolysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer layer serves to join the outer two layers together and provide cushioning to compensate for minor surface imperfections in the substrate.
A process for the manufacture of porous structures comprises forming a dry mixture comprising a component providing primary separation capability, a component providing green strength reinforcement capability and, a component providing binding capability and selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers; delivering the mixture to a suitable surface and building a desired thickness thereof; densifying the mixture into the form desired for the porous structure; rem...
A modular membrane filter for gases liquid and particulate matter is disclosed, the filter comprising at least two porous ceramic or ceramic modules. A regenerative filter is also disclosed comprising a means for filtering; and a means for regenerating said means for filtering, said means for regenerating being integral with said filtering means.
A process for the manufacture of a porous diaphragm of a synthetic material, especially polytetrafluoroethylene, which comprises forming a sheet of the synthetic material in admixture with a solid particulate additive (eg starch) to be removed therefrom, introducing said sheet into an electrolytic cell, filling the cell with the working electrolyte and removing the solid particulate in situ in the cell by electrolysing the said electrolyte. The porous diaphragms are especially suitable for use i...
The invention relates to a structure of open porosity in the form of a flat or curved panel made up of superposed layers of fibres with the orientation of the fibres varying from one layer to the next. The fibres are boron filaments held parallel in each layer by criss-crossing of filaments with another type. The boron filaments are bonded together at their crossing points to join superposed layers. The invention also provides a method of making such porous structure.
An improved porous electrode comprised of a porous, electrically conductive layer and an electrically conductive grid in which the normally high internal resistance of the electrode is substantially reduced by the presence of electrically conductive fibers in contact with the porous layer.
A breathable, hydrolyzable, porous film having long-term stability in mechanical properties which is obtained by the process comprising adding from 40 to 250 parts by weight of a finely-powdered filler having an average particle size of from 0.3 to 4 .mu.m to 100 parts by weight of a polylactic acid-based resin composition comprising from 80 to 95% by weight of polylactic acid or a lactic acid-hydroxycarboxylic acid copolymer and from 5 to 20% by weight of a plasticizer comprising a citric acid ...
A porous support of the present invention comprises a laminate which is formed by laminating a corrugated sheet, in which high and low wave portions coexist, and a flat sheet, and which is wound into a spiral form. The porous support is particularly used as a catalyst support for purifying automobile exhaust gas. Appropriate combination of the high and the low wave portions in the corrugated sheet permits the selection of any one of various cross-sectional forms such as a conventional circular f...
The present invention provides integral porous membranes comprising an amorphous halopolymer, as well as processes for preparing the membranes, and devices comprising the membranes. An example of an amorphous halopolymer is a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and perfluoro-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxole.
Porous ceramics are described, which are produced by a) mixing an aqueous solution of a suitable ionotropically orientable polyanion, either with oxides, hydroxides or hydrated oxides, which are present in the form of a sol, of the metals Al, Zr, Ti and Nb, or with finely crystalline oxides, hydroxides or hydrated oxides, which are present in suspension, of these metals, or with finely crystalline tricalcium phosphate or apatite which are present in suspension, b) bringing the mixed sol obtained...
