A process for increasing the amount of isolatable products in a by-product stream generated in the production of 1,6 hexanediol includes combining the by-product stream with water to form a combination of the water and the by-product stream; and reacting the combination at a temperature between about 250.degree. C. to about 400.degree. C. at a pressure from about 1,000 psig to about 3,000 psig to form one or more reaction products.
Improved surface characteristics of sheet molding compounds are obtained by employing defined amounts of resin, glass and filler in the formulation comprising the appearance side and the reinforcing side of molded objects.
Novel microporous polymers in forms ranging from films to blocks and intricate shapes from synthetic thermoplastic polymers, such as, olefinic, condensation, and oxidation polymers, are disclosed. In one embodiment the microporous polymers are characterized by a relatively homogeneous, three-dimensional cellular structure having cells connected by pores of smaller dimension. Also disclosed are microporous polymer products which contain relatively large amounts of functionally useful liquids and ...
This invention relates to photographic products and processes employing silver halide solvent precursors of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a monovalent organic radical; R.sup.2 is hydrogen or a monovalent organic radical; Z is a moiety that undergoes .beta.-elimination in aqueous alkaline solution and preferably is a moiety that undergoes .beta.-elimination in aqueous alkaline solution to release a photographically useful reagent; and n is an integer 3, 4 or 5.
A method for producing coated strip by continuously applying a film of the coating to the moving strip comprises trimming at least one edge of the film before it makes contact with the strip by a stationary or moving cutter which is responsive to the position of the adjacent strip edge. Both edges of the strip may be trimmed by separate cutters which can be coupled so as to be simultaneously responsive to the position of one edge of the strip only. Alternatively the cutters may operate independe...
Microscopic capsules comprising a nucleus surrounded by a film-forming polymeric layer having a substantially continuous light-reflecting metallic coating thereover.
Polymeric products comprising the acidified reaction product of an organic polyepoxide and a polyamine containing at least two tertiary amine groups are disclosed. The polyamine and the organic polyepoxide are reacted with one another under conditions to form an internally ionized, quaternary ammonium salt group-containing polymer which has a high molecular weight, but relatively low equivalent weight. The polyamine is formed by reacting an organic polyisocyanate or organic polycarboxylic acid w...
Novel powders, and resinous compositions bearing said powders, characterized by excellent chemical stability, electrical conductivity, and energy-absorbing characteristics. These three characteristics can be utilized, alone or combination, in forming many novel articles including microwave shielding apparatus, magnetic recording media, explosives, and the like articles. The more advantageous powders are characterized by a very thin coating of an electrically conductive metal carbide, metal silic...
