A system for transferring information stored on a disc, tape or film is provided which prevents unauthorized or unintentional use or disclosure to third parties of the information contained on the disc, tape or film. The disc, tape or film is contained within a cassette having structure for sensing intrusion into the cassette. The sensing structure triggers a destructive device which destroys the information on the disc, tape or film when intrusion into the cassette is sensed.
A method of operating an aluminum smelting cell during the start-up phase of the cell is described. The method includes forming a layer of boron oxide on the exposed surface of the cathode of the cell, forming a layer of aluminum on the boron oxide layer, and starting the cell. This melts the boron oxide layer to form a barrier impervious to oxygen at a temperature from about 400.degree. C. to about 650.degree. C., and the aluminum layer is melted to form a barrier to oxygen at temperature above...
A protection circuit for protecting circuit elements (TX) connected to line via terminal means (L1 and L2) from the effects of a transient abnormal high voltage surge, comprising a semiconductor switch (TR1 and TR2), a first circuit comprising a resistor (R1 ) in series with the conductor path of the semiconductor switch and a voltage reference means (D1, and D2)in parallel with the resistor and a junction of the semiconductor, and a second circuit comprising the first voltage reference means in...
A protection switch with sudden switching on and off, a trip-free release and forced opening is described. A manually movable actuator (10) forms with a U-clip (50) a toggle lever. One leg (51) of the U-clip (50) forming the toggle joint axis is displaceably guided in the actuator (10) in a link (15) with a variable spacing from its rotation axis (11) and against the action of a spring (14) supported on the actuator (10). The other leg (52) of the U-clip (50) is guided in a fixed link (25) and i...
To combat the accumulation of plaque on dentures, a non self-supporting coating of a non-toxic, negatively charged polysaccharide is applied. The polysaccharide coating is gradually sacrificed or ablated during wear. Ablation appears to remove microorganisms along with coating material. The polysaccharide is further defined by an ability to reduce the adhesion of Streptococcus salivarius cells in a simple in vitro bacterial adhesion test by at least 25% over a control.
By using a specific polymer material for handling, shipping, and storage, integrated circuits are protected from both corrosion and electrostatic discharge. This enclosure material includes a polymer matrix with both carbon black and a metal embedded. Suitable metals include copper, iron, cobalt, and manganese.
A pile wrapper is in the form of a flexible sheet (1,2) which, when encircling a pile, has two contiguous edges. These have abutments (8) which are urged together by a power tool (13) and fastened, conveniently by nuts (19) and bolts (18). The hoop tension induced in the wrapper resists wave suction forces. The wrapper can have an inner layer (2) containing a water resistant sealant which is forced into intimate contact with the pile as the tension is applied. The wrapper may also be given anti-...
A method of protecting a substrate, which comprises: (a) providing an article having a first portion that has means allowing that portion to be deformed from a larger cross-sectional size to a smaller cross-sectional size and maintained at that smaller size, and that comprises a heat-shrinkable material, (b) positioning the article such that a first portion encloses at least a part of the substrate, (c) deforming the first portion to the smaller cross-sectional size at which it corresponds close...
Independently of a punch-through MOS transistor Q.sub.3 used as an I/O protection element in which the drain is connected to an input node or output node and the source is connected to a GND or Vcc, an element for-setting the gate of punch-through MOS transistor Q.sub.3 to the GND potential is provided so that its operating speed may be slower than the punch-through speed of the punch-through MOS transistor Q.sub.3. In consequence, a high surge applied from I/O terminal can be punched through be...
The present invention is a process for protecting articles from electrostatic discharge (ESD) in which a coating is applied directly onto the article in liquid form and the resulting coating provides a surface resistivity that protects the underlying article from ESD. The composition contains a carrier material, carbon black, and a transition metal. The composition forms a coating on an article when applied as a liquid and dried thereon. The ratio of carrier solids to carbon black is about 100 p...
