This invention provides a caisson adapted to bear against the sea floor, constructed such that it contacts the sea floor with a minimum of motion. The caisson includes downwardly protruding members which make first contact with the sea bottom, thereby reducing the motion of the caisson by an acceptable level when the more fragile portions reach the sea floor.
Pipe handling and laying apparatus 1 supports a pipe on holding and a support 2,3 and includes extendible and a retractable gripping member 4 having gripping head 4a. The pipe, supported generally within area A, is brought in end-to-end relationship with another pipe to be joined thereto. Gripper head 4a is introduced into the open end of the second pipe and ram piston P of hydraulic ram H is retracted causing legs L of gripper head 4 to pivot into extended positions to grip the interior wall of...
Disclosed is a tanning agent for leather comprising a chromium or zirconium salt, preferably the sulphate, and an aryl sulphone, the tanning of leather therewith and the use of the aryl sulphone per se in chrome, vegetable or synthetic tanning of leather and in fat liquoring processes for leather.
A modification of a trimaran hull for improving the stability thereof in which the middle hull extends to a depth below that of the side hulls, the lower part of the middle hull having a rounded bow, and being considerably shorter in length than the side hulls and terminating forwards of the aft end of the side hulls.
A resilient mounting comprising an outer rigid member formed with an aperture in which is situated an inner rigid member, a deformable first annular element extending between the inner and outer rigid members, and a second annular element being located between the inner and outer rigid members, the first annular element being formed of a material having a resilience different from that of the material of the second annular element. The mounting is particularly applicable as a support for the cen...
Method for grinding rails by means of a rail-borne vehicle, a frame movably supported on the vehicle, and at least one grinding unit adjustably mounted on the frame and arranged to provide at least one rail grinding zone. A rail follower is mounted on the frame substantially in line with the grinding zone, and the grinding unit is so supported that at least the grinding zone is adjustable transversely of the rail direction. At least one of the grinding zone and rail follower is locatable at diff...
A marking system for ski runs or the like wherein a plurality of demarcation signs, each of preferably spherical shape and with two halves which are differently colored, are symmetrically arranged along the two edges of the run.
An abutment assembly for a piston, e.g. of a hydraulic brake actuator has a nut screw-threaded on a nut and a drive ring meshing with the nut through a reversible screw-thread connection and engaging the piston under spring bias at conical friction surfaces. Differential control means in the form of a slipping ratchet clutch is provided to prevent undesired rotation of the nut due to blows applied to the nut by the piston during knock-back.
An air distribution plate for incorporation into a material conveyor or a material separator has a plurality of apertured zones alternately arranged along the length of the plate. The apertures in the first series of zones are inclined in the direction of the desired flow of material in the case of the conveyor and in the direction of the desired air flow in the case of the separator and the apertures in the second series of zones incline in the opposite direction by the same amount. Each zone i...
Apparatus for curing a tire repair wherein an electrical heater pad is placed against the repair area on the inside of the tire, and is supported by a flat air bag which lies against the inside of the tire, and is supported by a sausage-shaped air bag. Another electrical heater pad is placed against the repair area on the outside of the tire, and is held against the tire by another flat air bag which is held against the tire by straps passing around the tire cross-section. A buckle is shown whic...
